Has anyone already turned in their paper? I think we should look at having a single policy description we can all cut & paste so it shows a little more group-think. Thoughts?

Skye, have you turned yours in yet? I'm going to write a policy "paragraph" that we can all use, you're not required to, we just think it'll be a good idea to present a unified definition.

I have not turned it in yet.  I know that the part where we talk about policy he wanted to be about 3 pages long.  I wrote about it for about 2 and 1/4.  I guess we could all use a paragraph and then elaborate more off of that.  I personally would be fine without one though.

What we'll plan to use is a lead-in paragraph of our policy definition, the rest of the 3 pages will come from the individual.

What do we have as a list of external references?

I figured for my paper I'll reference our handout, a few things on my stakeholder policy, and then the power points of the other 3 task forces.

Who has Kelsey's #? I want to put the name of the actual Sustainability Office in the policy definition but can't find it on fcgov.com

Here it is, cut and paste this into your policy description. We are missing one key piece of information, that's what is the official title of the actual Sustainability Department in Fort Collins NOW and hopefully Kelsey is alive and will respond with that information tomorrow well in advance of our deadline. Good luck to all, if you hear nothing from me or Kelsey by 2:30 or so tomorrow, just go with it as is I guess. Party will be starting for me Thursday afternoon and won't be stopping until Sunday or so. Looking for input as to where we want to get together Friday night for those who are available, but I believe the green movement is strong among us. Talk soon.

Policy: We suggest writing new municipal policy to legislate new or improve existing incentives for existing Fort Collins businesses to make their practices more sustainable and to entice inbound businesses not only to establish their operations in Fort Collins, but also to do so using sustainable practices. We advocated creating a new department within the existing sustainability program titled “Sustainable Employment.” The new department’s focuses will include reducing carbon-output; “greening” of businesses and buildings; and job creation education and implementation. Duties of the department will include public relations for green jobs and businesses; education for vocational programs, business opportunities and community education; creation of a green jobs database and oversight of mentorship programs. In addition, we advocate altering the building code for new business buildings to make construction and demolition sustainable; encouraging retrofitting of existing buildings although we discourage mandating such and finally publication of participating businesses on an annual basis.

There was, I may be wrong about this, supposed to exist an actual Office of sustainability, rather than a program. Go with that if you want, if Kelsey agrees or says otherwise we'll go with what she gives us.

I think I unintentionally led u to believe something wrong...I
apologize for that. Its just the Sustainability Program.

Okay, do we want the Office of Sustainable Employment to fall UNDER the Sustainability Program or to oversee it or what?

The program should be within the office. Although it is not a department with much power I feel that it is ridiculous to have two parallel departments working on the same problems. Plus, this is a policy that is just focusing on an aspect of that Office so I feel it should be a subset.

Go with it. I love you all.

Policy: We suggest writing new municipal policy to legislate new or improve existing incentives for existing Fort Collins businesses to make their practices more sustainable and to entice inbound businesses not only to establish their operations in Fort Collins, but also to do so using sustainable practices. We advocated creating a new department above and administering the existing Sustainability program titled “Sustainable Employment.” The new department’s focuses will include their existing focuses plus reducing carbon-output; “greening” of businesses and buildings; and job creation education and implementation. Duties of the department will include oversight of the current Sustainability Program as well as public relations for green jobs and businesses; education for vocational programs, business opportunities and community education; creation of a green jobs database and oversight of mentorship programs. In addition, we advocate altering the building code for new business buildings to make construction and demolition sustainable; encouraging retrofitting of existing buildings although we discourage mandating such and finally publication of participating businesses on an annual basis.
