Delhi get together or community project? (was: New members, please introduce!)

We met very briefly at Bridge to India office earlier this year so it's good to learn more about you. Thank you for the introduction.

A monthly get-together -- I'm sorry, but I'd hate to contribute to emissions from 8-10 cars (driven by single passengers) solely for feel-good meetings but if we could organise behind a common purpose, I'd be happy to support it. 

It'd be great to meet up, for example, if there are members in the Delhi area who are willing to take up grassroots project like trying to convince board of a Resident Welfare Association (RWA) to pursue energy efficiency / conservation project or a tree plantation drive (perfect time for that). 

Of course, members are also free to organise an informal get together among themselves. For Green-India support, I'll be more than happy if members volunteer their time for a useful community engagement.

Dear All on Green India,

 

I am Subbarao Mohanram, in the Power & Energy field in the last 30-plus years and I was MD of Uttarakhnd Power Corporation and Power Transmission Corporation till recently. My  interest for sometime now is RE and I have promoted an RE Company-Greenfive Power Pvt. Ltd, devoted to wind energy & Biomass projects development. My mission is to develop techno-commercially viable RE systems, delink the grid-power from village electrification and have them connected on DDGs built on locally available resources-be it wind,biomass,mini/micro hydel & others. I strongly believe that present systems are unworkable and cannot help in reaching electricity to every household by 2012.

 

Social action and activism is the key to all this and that is the one thing absent in most of the state-sponsored schemes. Groups like Green India and its members can take a lead in triggering such action.

 

I wish to hear from other members on this.

Hello everyone,

My name is Arvind Sastry and I work with The solar Energy Center as an Intern.

We are currently doing a project with UNDP on " Market development of Solar concentrators for Industrial process heat".

The United nations Development programme and The government of India are looking for a suitable candidates (Technical consultant and Lead consultants), to design a climate change mitigation for this project in India.

The assignment requires the preparation of a project document according to the UNDP/GEF guidelines.The assignment will take place during the project development phase and the project document should be ready for submission to UNDP/GEF by january 2011.

I will send the terms of reference in case anyone is interested.

If not, Please advise us in choosing the Consultants for this project if you know someone with the expertise in Solar thermal energy.We would require the Curriculum Vitae of Suitable candidates so you could also give me their names and I will write to them personally about this project. K Singh, an expert in the field of Biomass.He has been actively involved in electrifying around 40 villages in Bihar till now. The goal is to electrify 2014 villages by 2014. I agree to Sh. Mohanram, however while we focus on RE power, renewable fuel needs do not get same importance. It is stupidity to transport kerosene and LPG to villages which are resource rich to have their fuel needs through biogas, solar and biomass route rather than petro-fuels. RE fuels have all established and time tested technologies. RE power still needs lot of work to be financially competitive to grid power, but that is now need of the hour. Insistence on decentralised power cost should be competing with grid power is not correct, we need to see the social and environmental side as well.
