Rules

We strive to make Green-India a forum for useful and intelligent discussion. In order to reduce the noise-to-signal ratio, we have set up the following rules that govern discussions and our moderation policy. Please read carefully before participating. These rules have been revised as on 17-Nov 2011 will be effective immediately. Your use of Green-India discussion forum will constitute your agreement to comply with these rules while sending email to the list.

1.  No Off-topic Discussion: Keep discussion on-topic and useful. Messages should be limited to topics within the realms of climate change, clean energy, energy efficiency, resource depletion and sustainability.  Also see rule #9 pertaining to CDM discussions.

2.  No Anonymous Messages: Ensuring that every message contains members full name leads to accountability and discourages frivolous posts. Therefore all messages must contain sender's full real name either in the 'From' field or in signature. We do not permit any message that qualifies on any of the following: a) contains no name or contains only name of organisation, b) contains a nickname or pseudonym, c) contains only the first name d) contains multiple names e) abbreviates the last name. One may abbreviate the first name but last name must be mentioned.

    • Exception: Anonymous message may be  permitted on a rare occasion when a person of authority writing about his/her work or position does not wish to reveal his/her identity. Please contact moderator to make such posts.
3.  No Personal Messages: If you are replying to a person instead of discussing a topic, please do not send message to the entire list of hundreds of people. Replace the group email address with the person's email address. Only messages that contain information that are of value to list members should be sent to Green-India.

4.  Commercial Messages: Messages promoting a company, its services or product; messages seeking a business deal / partnership, commercial surveys are generally not permitted. A limited number of commercial messages may be allowed on payment basis. See details.

5. Event & Job Notifications: Notification of commercial events (including but not limited to conferences, seminars, workshops, web casts etc.) and job postings will be allowed only on payment basis. See details. This rule does not apply to notifications of events that do not charge fees from participants.

6. No Spamming: Any member found spamming the list with completely unrelated products or websites such as online dating sites will be immediately banned.

7. No Duplicates. Please submit only one message at a time. Sending the same message more than once is not acceptable. To find out if your message has reached the group, check group homepage.

8. No Insults. While we encourage diverging views, disagreements must be civilAny member found insulting another member will be immediately banned. Please discuss the topic on hand and avoid personal attacks.

9. No Posts on CDM:  Green-India will not be allowed to become a platform to promote Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). We do not permit posts by consultants & firms dealing in CDM and/or posts regarding how to obtain CDM credits. No exceptions.

10.  No Abuse of Privileges: Strict action will be taken against any individual found to be abusing group privileges for promotional purposes. Not only will they be banned from the group, their email address will be reported to Google for suspension of account.

Apart from the above rules, it is assumed that any message posted to the group will be in English language as there are members from several countries; follows proper grammar and syntax to the extent that it is understandable. Any undue formatting like excessive use of capitals, bold or highlighted typeface that hurts the eyes will not be allowed.

This is an attempt to make the moderation policy as explicit as possible by clearly defining what is allowed and what is not. There may still be times though when there is a thin line between a message that conforms to the rules above and one that does not. If you have a question or clarification, feel free to contact
privately. These rules, however, are not open for discussion in the group.

The rules have been formed in the interest of majority of members who are here to have useful and intelligent discussion on solutions that can address climate change and energy crisis. They are meant to discourage the small minority who join only to push their promotional agenda. Therefore, I can assure that no honest and well intentioned member will be punished through the application of above rules.
