“Normal hybrid tests [for mustard] take place at 16 places across the country. We will try to put [the DMH-11] at 6-7 locations… sowing will begin in the next 4-5 days,” Rai said, adding that the mustard crop can be sown till November 15."आइसीएआर के भरतपुर स्थित सरसों अनुसंधान संस्थान को जीएम सरसों के बीज सौंप दिए गए हैं, जिसे उसने अपने विभिन्न रिसर्च सेंटर भरतपुर, गंगानगर, बनारस, कानपुर और लुधियाना में बोआई के लिए भेज दिया है।"Translated as ICAR Bharatpur mustard research centre has been given GM mustard seeds which has sent those to its various research centres in Bharatpur, Ganganagar, Banaras, Kanpur and Ludhiana for sowing. On Tue, 1 Nov 2022 at 13:33, GM Free India <india...@gmail.com> wrote:http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/economy/agri-business/gm-mustard-to-be-planted-in-100-places-during-current-rabi-season/article66078238.eceKey Article Excerpts“Totally, 10 kg of DMH 11 (GM mustard) are available and it will be sown in 50-100 places in four major mustard-growing States (Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana),” said Trilochan Mohapatra, President of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NASS) and former director-general of ICAR.
Since less quantity of seeds is available, first it can be used for demonstration purposes, and some quantity can be used for field trials in more locations. After ascertaining the yield potential of the DMH-11, seed multiplication will be done, he said, adding for field demonstration there is no need to seek State’s permission.
Efforts are needed to produce more hybrid seeds through private and public partnerships so that a larger area could be covered in the next cropping season, Paroda said.“With available seeds, ICAR can easily conduct 50-100 field demonstrations under a controlled environment this rabi season, to check the performance,” said RS Paroda,Chairman of Trust for Advancement of Agricultural Sciences (TAAS) and also a former D-G of ICAR.
“A beginning has been made and more and more crops will be developed with genetic engineering technology,” said KC Bansal, secretary of NAAS.--Coalition for a GM-free India
