The state government on Monday announced its policy on “net metering” for solar grid interactive roof-top and small solar photo voltaic power plants. The principal secretary for Energy Mrutunjay Sahoo issued orders declaring the new policy.

Under net metering concept, energy between export of generated energy and import of Discom energy will be recorded for a billing month.

Based on meter reading, which records both import and export values, the consumer will get money from the Discom or pay the balance amount to Discom. Consumer will generate solar power for self-consumption and feed excess power into the grid. Government felt facility may be provided to consumers to generate power for use and feed excess power into grid when not being consumed.

The net metering concept works only when  grid power supply is available, other wise the process of net metering is not complete.
Secondly the Energy meters recording export and import should made available.
Thirdly people wants supply during power cuts. As you know that 4 hrs power cuts imposed hampering our lives. Mainly Solar power should supplement the regular power during power cuts so off grid solar system may help little more.

Living in Hyderabad for the last 3 years, I dont understand why my power bills never fluctuate.  I dont know whether the Discom read the meters or not.   I think they apply average bill amount of last year for calculation of new year bill.  IF this is the case, how it going to be measured how much unit have been supplied to Grid.

Dear Group members,

find the attached GO on net metering, but the stipulated regulations and the mechanism to follow are yet to formulate.

The mechanism shall be fixing new import-export energy meter, end of every month you can see in the bill that how much is been consumed, how much is exported to grid, and the net energy to pay.

Till today, even though we generate solar on roof tops,we are not supposed to export to grid, Now at least we can export to grid, only concern is, if we export more energy than consumption per month, you will not get any money for that.

I recommend everybody to start installing on their roof tops, the cost is roughly 1 lakh per KW.

There are very good string inverters are available in India includes Refusol,Kaco, Schneider and many more.

Let us utilize this opportunity and support the Government of AP in reducing the power cuts. As we all know tiny drops only make a mighty ocean.

Is Grid ready for pushing power? What i understand is for pushing power the substation should know that in realtime. Which means complex smart grid infrastructure. Are we ready?

Hello all,

Net metering is allowed only for 3 phase consumers as of now. I think it should be extended to single phase consumers as well as so as to provide maximum exposure of decentralised power generation such as seen in The Netherlands. It is a welcome move by Government of Andhra Pradesh though it has just started.

But why any surplus generation after consumption is considered as inadvertent? Payment of surplus generation could promote energy efficiency in particular and energy management in general.

Santosh
