Had so much fun at our 5th design session for the Labs that we think we are ready to move from our formation design stage to working sessions! Here are some highlights of the day:
- Laurie met with Jason just prior to the session and reviewed the Green Garage Services Collaboration points that we have developed so far (refer to Sustainability Labs - First Evolution of Labs Group - Green Garage Services Collaboration).
- Reviewed latest on Building Systems Commissioning with Joe.
- Expert adding circuit setter to solar panel line to be able to read and set the flow with a handheld meter by the water balance contractor. May still want to add rotameter to be able to check in future without balancer. Review with Tom and if adding, Kobold meter may be preferred to Blue-White (more flexible install because of spring, more tolerance for changes in temp/pressure, future capability to read metered flow remotely/electronically).
- Cx Issues have been sent to all involved parties to address and are being tracked on Google Docs.
- Additional missing or incomplete items: No sensor for building pressure installed, no active pressure control, no summer-winter changeover for bldg pressurization, no TAB report yet, no ventilation diagram on graphics yet.
- Expert/Cochrane scheduled to finish up 9/8/11, 9/9/11, and 9/12/11.
- Expert/Cochrane planning to provide owner training at same time. Recommend training be VIDEO RECORDED. [Later note: training is also intended to include use of O&M manuals, so they should be available prior.]
- Helen is liaisoning some ideas for our Labs links from the GG Main Page to Peggy. Reviewed the Labs Highlights page and ideas for Help Wanted page to advertise opportunities and needs. Also would like to put blurb and maybe photo of hot topic called something like "What's brewing in the Labs", changing it somewhat frequently to keep fresh.
- Identified how various participant and collaborators might want to become involved and what sort of things it might entail so people can match activities to their interests and availability.
- Reviewed the Labs Energy Mind Map, thinking about when we have our Labs Sessions on Fridays, where do we get energy from, where does it go, how is it used, and what does it create.
- Food keeps showing up at Labs and is part of GG culture; need to be mindful of this in Sessions and keep the positive food energy flowing.
- Should strive to have some form of hands-on activity most Fridays at Labs Sessions; part of on-going experiment, demonstration, etc. Draw people, and reach people.
- Reviewed flow chart on documentation for experiments.
- "Publish Results" step may have different versions depending on audience trying to reach and different forms of media, collaborating with Library.
- Archiving tabled (No Go) experiments may also be important as history for why we didn't do something as much as why we did do something.
- Reviewed experiment template for Wiki content. Reviewed proposed experiment tracker and experiment workbook in Google Docs. Communication Plan Resources explains purpose of each.
- Not every experiment will have every step in planning or documentation. Intended to be guidelines, not to bog down process.
- Add Jamilah's Space to tracker. May be difficult to take "after" readings as she is no longer in that space.
- Consensus was to move to 1:30 p.m. time to meet at next session on 9/23/11 as we would be starting experiment work. Verify with Tom.
Let the record reflect that this was Tom Besemer's first Labs Session since his application was unanimously approved by the Board and his probation period has commenced. Welcome Tom! Thank you for sharing some of your pearls of wisdom.
Also, the Labs requested time at a future Friday lunch to present our development so far and get feedback from the community lunch group. Check with Tom.
