Subject: Exciting News!
Friends -
I have some exciting news to share with you.
A few years ago, the New York State Legislature was labeled the most dysfunctional state legislature in the country by the Brennan Center for Justice. That's embarrassing. Although we've made some progress under Governor Cuomo, there is still a long way to go before New York is back on track. 26% of New Yorkers approve of the work of the State Legislature and 64% of New Yorkers are dissatisfied with the direction our state is heading in.
Last week, before a room of 150 supporters, I spoke about my community's need for a new voice to represent us in the New York State Senate to focus on issues such as reviving our economy, strengthening our schools, reinvesting in our transportation system, and most importantly, reforming our state government. We need new voices and new leaders in Albany that won't just accept things as they are, but will work day after day to make things better than they could be; new voices and new leaders that don't accept politics as usual, but believe in politics as they should be.
I want to share with you that I plan on running for State Senate in 2012 and being the new voice that my community - and Albany - needs to get our state back on track. This isn't my official announcement just yet - but I'm taking all the necessary steps to prepare for my campaign next year - including letting friends and family know of my plans.
Election Day is still a year away, but over the next twelve months, I'll have a lot to say about my vision for the communities I want to represent and the path that I think New York needs to take to become great again.
