Itinerary – Plan D (In Mykonos, made room for beaches)

 

Sep 1st, Saturday: New York

3:35pm – LGA -> YUL via Air Canada Flight 749 (1h 28m)

5:03pm – Transfer at Montreal, Canada

6:20pm – YUL -> ATH via Air Canada Flight 828 (9h 10m)

 

Sep 2nd, Sunday: New York -> Athens

10:30am – Airport arrival in Athens Greece

11:30am – Transit to hotel

·         Take metro line 3 (blue) from airport, transfer to metro line 2 (red) at Syntagma station and head to Syngrou-Fix station (to Aghios Dimitrios, Alexandros Panagoulis direction). From there, take a cab or do a 10 min walk to hotel. Metro ticket 14 euros.

·         Outside the arrival terminal, take X95 airport bus. Get off at Syndagma Sq (last stop). Transfer to metro line 2 (red) and head to Syngrou-Fix station.  From there, take a cab or do a 10 min walk to hotel. Metro ticket 14 euros.

12:30pm – Store luggage with hotel. Get some information on sites and lunch spot. (Check in if possible, if not, leave it at night)

1pm – Lunch

2:15pm – Arch of Hadrian

3:15pm – Pickup car rental from downtown (8. Sygrou Ave. Athens, http://www.budget-athens.gr)

3:45pm – Drive to Cape Sounion via the coastal road (EO91)

5:30pm – Cape Sounion (http://www.athensguide.com/sounion/)

8:00pm – Dinner

10:00pm – Drive to Athens Airport

11:00pm – Fill gas + return car rental

11:30pm – Last metro (blue line 3) leaves airport terminal at 11:33pm.  If missed, take X95 bus back to Athens. At Syntagma Square, take taxi back to hotel

 

Sep 3rd, Monday: Athens

8:30am – Breakfast

9:00am – Walk to Zappeion

9:15am - National Gardens and Zappeion

10:00am - Panathinaiko Stadium, venue to the 1st modern Olympics in 1896

10:45am – Walk to Dionysus Theater

10:55am – Dionysus Theater / South Slope of Acropolis (Open at 11am, buy ticket first.  Combo ticket pack here sells for 12 euro, verify it’s valid for 7 days)

12:00am - Acropolis

2:00pm – Lunch

3:15pm - Ancient Agora

5:30pm - Roman Agora

6:45pm – Areopagus (Mars Hill, for sunset)

8:00pm - Dinner

 

Sep 4th, Tuesday: Athens -> Mykonos

5:45am - Checkout from hotel

6:00am – With luggage, take a taxi to Petraiona metro station (green).  From there, take the line 1 (green) to Piraeus port

6:35am – Arrive at port, pick up ferry ticket to Mykonos

Can pick up from blue start ferry port office OR the port agency Giovanti @ 6, Aristidou Street, Piraeus

See if the Santorini -> Piraeus tickets can be picked up too.

7:35am – Ferry to Mykonos

12:50pm – Arrive at Mykono’s New Port, call for hotel pickup and check in.

2:30pm – Take bus to Platis Gialos

3:00pm - Platis Gialos, see Well of Giannaros and the 3 Hellenistic Towers.

4:00pm – Take bus back to Mykono Town

4:30pm – Walk around Mykonos Town: Matoyianni Street, Lena’s House, Church of Paraportiani, the Windmills, Old Port (check the ferry tickets and time to Delos)

               Pick up ferry tickets from travel agency Zouganelis Ioannis, Address: 19, Kampani coast, 846 00, Mykonos

6:00pm – Dinner

7:30pm – Sunset at Little Venice

Night - Mykonos is a party island, we can walk around town and check it out

 

Sep 5th, Wednesday: Mykonos

7:30am – Breakfast (Eat a lot, late lunch today)

8am – Leave hotel, walk (or take taxi) to Old Port for tour boat to Delos Island

8:30am – Buy round trip tickets to Delos Island

9am - Depart for Delos Island

1:30pm – Leave Delos Island

2:15pm – Lunch

3:15pm - Pickup car rental

3:45pm – Drive to Ornos or Agios Ioannis or Parou

4:15pm – Spend 2 hour at the beach

6:15pm – Drive to Armenistis Lighthouse (North, 7km from Mykonos town, follow the signs to Fanari)

6:45pm – Armenistis Lighthouse (good sunset view)

8:00pm – Dinner

9:30pm – Drive back to hotel @ Mykonos Town

 

Sep 6th, Thursday: Mykonos -> Santorini

8:15am – Breakfast

8:45am – Check out hotel

9:00am – Drive to AnoMera

9:30am - Ano Mera village and Monastery of Panagia Tourliani

10:30am - Drive to Panormos Bay (optional)

11:00am  – Panormos Bay ruins (optional)

12:00am – Drive back to Mykonos city

12:30pm - Lunch

1:45pm – Fill gas + return car rental @ old port

2:55pm – Depart for Santorini

5:35pm - Ferry arrive at Fira port

5:50pm – Pick up car rental, drive to Firostefani & park

6:30pm - Firostefani (North of Fira) for sunset

8pm – Pick up ferry ticket from Dakoutros Travel @ Fira Square, Santorini if not yet done so

8:30pm - Dinner at Fira

9:30pm – check out the night life there.

 

Sep 7th, Friday: Santorini

7:30am – Breakfast

8:00am – Hike Fira -> Imerovigli

9:15am – Explore Imerovigli

9:45am – Imerovigli -> Oia

12:00pm – Lunch @ Oia

1:30pm - Take the 1:40pm bus from Oia back to Fira (bus runs every 20 mins from 9:20-5:20pm)

2:00pm – Walk around Fira (pick up ferry ticket if not yet done so)

2:45pm - Pick up car from Fira and drive south

3:00pm – Drive along the south coast of Santorini and visit the following (http://www.santorini-web.com/map.pdf)

#15 – Akrotiri windmill

#21- Aghia Anna church (optional)

#20- Akrotiri excavations

#19 – Taxiarchis church

#17- Panaghia Kimisis church (optional)

#18- Felou Square (optional)

Drive to the end of the road to see the light house

#22 – Emborio windmills (optional)

#36 – Emborio castle ruins (optional)

#25 – Ancient Elfsina ruins (optional)

#24- Ancient Elefsina (optional)

Stop by Vlychada Village

5:30pm – Drive to Oia

6:00pm – Oia. See the Oia castle of Agios Nikolaos (#1) and the ruins (#3). Walk around Ammoundi Bay. Find a spot to watch sunset, maybe at Mavro Vouno summit (#4)

8:00pm - Dinner

 

Sep 8, Saturday: Santorini -> Athens

7:45am – Breakfast

8:15am – Drive to Ancient Thera (#27)

8:35am - Ancient Thera  

9:45am – Hike to Monastery of Profitis Illias (#26), visit and hike back to car

11:00am - Drive to Pyrgos Village

11:30am - Pyrgos Village - see the Kastro (#35 castle), (Optional: Winery tour at Santo Winery)

12:30pm - Drive to Megalochori

12:45pm – Megalochori Village & Lunch at the village square (Optional: Winery tour at Boutari Winery @ Megalochori 84700, Greece)

2:15pm – Fill gas and return car rental at Fira port

3:45pm – Board ferry and go back to Athens

11:25pm – Arrival at port Piraeus. 11:30pm - Take metro line 1 (green) back to Omonia station, transfer to line 2 (red). Get off at Syngrou-Fix and walk or take taxi back to hotel. If metro do not operate past midnight, take line 1 (green) to Petraiona station.  Take taxi back to hotel.  Or if nothing operates anymore, just take taxi back.

 

 

Sep 9th, Sunday: Athens

7:30am - Breakfast

8:00am – Leave hotel and walk to Temple of Olympic Zeus

8:10am - Temple of Olympic Zeus

9:20am – Walking tour 1 - Lysikrates monument -> Anafiotika -> Nikis Street -> Syntagma Square

10:40am - Syntagma Square, watch the 11am change of guards in front of Tomb of Unknown Soldiers (Don’t wonder too far into Panepistimiou Street since the area gets unsafe as approaching Omonia Square.)

11:30am – Transit to Thissio station

11:45am - Kerameikos Cemetery + Museum

12:45pm – Lunch

2:00pm - Walking tour 2: Monastiraki Flea Market -> Hadrian’s Library -> Adrianou Street -> Plaka  -> Lysikrates monument -> Acropolis Museum

3:45pm - Acropolis Museum

6:15pm – Transit to Syntagma Square station and walk to south east entrance of Mount Lycabettus

7:00pm – Mount Lycabettus + sunset (Take the two-minute funicular up the southeast flank if short in time)

8:00pm – Psirri, dinner and night life

 

 

Sep 10th, Monday: Athens -> New York

8:30am – Breakfast

9am – Leave from hotel to airport: Taxi -> Metro line3 final stop. (Note: not all line 3 goes to the airport, look for an airport sign in front of the train).

10am – Arrive at airport

12pm – ATH -> YUL via Air Canada Flight 829 (10h 10m)

3:10pm – Transfer flight at Montreal, Canada. Shopping, dinner and games.

7:50pm – YUL -> LGA via Air Canada Flgiht 752 (1h 25m)

9:15pm – Arrive at LGA
