Congratulations to Team Great Texas 300 (Steve Piche and Juke Ball) for first place in Spin Class and first to the beach in the Texas Dash on Saturday. Also, Team Frankenkitty (Scott Tuma and son) took a first place in the non-spin class. Full results are provided below.
We had a smaller number of boats participate in the race due to the expected and actual conditions. Expected conditions had scared off a number of sailors but the actual conditions were fairly standard for this time of the year.
As far as the race goes, Team Frankenkitty jumped to an early lead in 15 knot deep reachy conditions with Team Great Texas 300 slightly behind. Both teams duked it out trying to prevent pitch poles while keeping the speed up. Team Great Texas 300 pulled into the lead before San Luis pass and stretched out to a half mile lead before popping the chute with 10 miles to go. Team Great Texas 300 finished in dramatic style with a flip on the beach after finishing. This prevented their boat from sailing away and running into the jetties as happened to one team.
Congrats to Chris and Carrie for finishing. It was Carrie first race. They were not the fastest but they did finish. Good job!!!
