GL: Kathy Armstrong of "Choices"

With shock and sadness I read the news in today's newspaper of the death
of Kathy Armstrong. Some of you may have met Kathy and her husband Richard
on their cruises on the Tennessee, Tenn-Tom, Ohio, Mississippi, and Arkansas
Rivers. They had to cut short their Great Loop trip, but they didn't lose
their love for boating, or for Kathy, her love of lighthouses, which she
switched to "chasing" by land instead of by water. I will miss Kathy's high
spirits and cheerfulness, and Gary and I offer our deepest sympathies to
Richard. We are so glad she was able to achieve many of her dreams in her
too-short life. Here is the obituary, as published in today's Arkansas
Democrat-Gazette.
KATHY SUE JOHNSON McARTHUR ARMSTRONG, age 53, of Little Rock passed away
Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006. She was born May 14, 1953 in Little Rock, Ark.
Kathy was a 1971 graduate of Bigelow High School, she was a Registered Nurse
and worked at Arkansas Children?s Hospital for 19 years and more recently
at U.A.M.S. She was a former resident of Carlisle, Ark., and a member of
First United Methodist Church of Carlisle. She was a former lead vocalist
of local bands, LR Partners and McArthur?s Park. Her hobby was lighthouse
chasing and she was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother and friend.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard Armstrong of Little Rock;
three daughters, Marcy McArthur Wells of Conway, Allison McArthur Hinson
of Jonesboro, Summer McArthur McFarland of North Little Rock; her parents,
Billy C. Johnson of Little Rock; and Janiece Powell Rankin of Perryville;
grandchildren, Taryn Wells, Sydney Hinson and Dylan McFarland.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Bigelow Baptist Church
with Dr. Bill Brown officiating. Burial will be at Volman Cemetery by Harris
Funeral Home of Perryville. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 19 at the funeral home in Perryville. Memorials may be made
to Arkansas Children?s Hospital, 800 Marshall St., Little Rock, Ark. 72202.

What a loss! We cruised with Kathy and Richard in the spring of 2002.
Following them across from Appalachacola to Tarpon Springs on a dark night. Just
the two boats...their Mainship and our Californian, Fenix Sunday. We spent
several weeks with them heading north until they ran aground in Georgia and got
towed 80 miles to Thunderbolt. Kathy said that 80 miles under tow was the way
to travel...no worries...just sit on the back deck and have a cocktail.
