to Greater Lowell Reading Grant
After a year of great ideas to help you all with reading instruction
in your classes and the many national awards that the website has won,
I have decided to include a discussion board for you to share your
great ideas. If you would like to share a teaching idea with your
colleagues at Greater Lowell, become a member of the Google Group and
post your idea. Best Practices are helpful to us all.
Here is my idea:
Highlighting
I have my students highlight what they are reading and I try to
emphasis what they will need for upcoming tests. After I show them
some examples, we discuss what they think should be highlighted.
Finally, I give them a highlighter and they try it themselves. It is
getting better. They read out loud what they think is important.
They also have to read the text a couple of times. They like arguing
about what is important and what isn't so important.
