Grumpy Old Men, the musical AUDITIONS for Starlight Dinner Theatre.
This musical is adapted from the classic 1993 film about feuding neighbors competing for the same lady.
Directed by Mike Stewart; Assistant Director/Choreographer, Helen Hart.
Auditions will be held on February 15 & 16 at Delta Presbyterian Church, 6100 W. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, 48917 from 6:30-9 pm.
(Performances will be April 18-19 & 24-25-26 at Waverly East Intermediate.)
Please bring a prepared song; an accompanist will be provided. You will also be asked to read from the script.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS (Approximate age range) Casting age is relative and flexible. The actor’s ability to portray a particular age range on stage and realistically relate to other characters is more important than chronological age.
JOHN GUSTAFSON - Male, 70's. A retired Midwestern high school history teacher. Conservative, finicky and set in his ways. Actor will have wonderful comedic skills and sing well. Jack Lemmon played this role in the film.
MAX GOLDMAN - Male, 70's. A cranky retired TV repairman. He has a knack for insults and wicked practical jokes. Actor should have wonderful comedic skills and sing well. Walter Matthau played this role in the film.
ARIEL TRUAX - Female, early to mid 50's. A beautiful, free-spirited, playful newcomer to town. She’s a college literature professor with a poetic flair, and a sensual air of mystery. Actor will have excellent comedic skills and sing and dance well. Ann-Margret played this role in the film.
JACOB GOLDMAN - Male, 35-40. Max’s son. A mild-mannered Minnesota attorney. Lonely in love and looking for a life change. Will be a strong actor and singer.
MELANIE (GUSTAFSON) NORTON - Female, 35-40. John's daughter. A real estate agent whose marriage is falling apart. She's longing for a life change - and a warmer climate. Will be a strong actor and singer.
SANDRA SNYDER – Female, 40’s - 50’s. A nefarious tax collector. Unrelenting and by the books. Will sing and dance well.
GRANDPA GUSTAFSON – Male, to play 94. John’s geriatric father. Has a “who gives a f@#&” attitude”, a brash naughty mouth with sex on the brain.
CHUCK BARRELS – Male, 69. Owns the bait shop/apothecary. Kind, wise and easy-going. Loves to fish and tell stories. Will sing well.
PUNKY BARRELS – Female, 55. Chuck’s niece. A newcomer to town. Wise-cracking, obtuse and loyal.
ENSEMBLE ROLES:
HARRY - Male, 35-45. Accident-prone postman. Affable. Will be a strong singer and dance well.
TIM – Male, 40’s. The town’s dubious minister. Will be a strong singer and dance well.
UNIS – Female, 40's. An avid bird-watcher. Married to Tim. Will be a strong singer and dance well.
STAN – Male, 50. A timid, brow-beaten polka champion. Will be a strong singer and dance well.
FRAN - Female, 50. Married to Stan. The domineering, self-righteous town gossip. Will be a strong singer and dance well.
KARLA – Female, 20's. Owns and operates the coffee cart. Friendly and smart. Also plays a nurse. Will be a strong singer and dance well.
BO & LO – Male, 20's. Young hockey players. Also play moving men and orderlies. Will be strong singers and dance well.
