Auditions for Pillowman by Martin McDonagh

Director Adam Carlson is holding auditions for this contemporary dark fable.

Where: Sycamore Creek Church 1919 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Lansing, MI

The Pillowman Synopsis:

The Pillowman is a dark comedy about a writer named Katurian who is interrogated by two detectives in a totalitarian state about his gruesome short stories, which bear a striking resemblance to recent child murders. As he is questioned, his intellectually disabled brother, Michal, confesses to the crimes, and the play explores themes of storytelling, trauma, and the relationship between art and violence through a series of interrogations, re-enactments of Katurian's stories, and flashbacks to his abusive past. 

Auditions will be cold reads from scripts. If unable to attend audition date, please contact us to provide a video audition prior.
Rehearsals will be weekday evenings and begin shortly after casting.
Performances are February 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 & March 1

Roles available are:

Katurian: 20s-30s. Author of disturbing short stories, often involving children. He is accused of kidnapping and murdering children, but he has no idea why.

Tupolski: 30s-60s. Lead detective on a case of missing children. Always in control of any situation.

Ariel: 20s-40s. The younger detective on the case. Very emotional. Willing to cross the line to protect children.

Michal: 20s-30s. Katurian's older brother. He's "slow to get things" due to physical abuse as a child. He loves Katurian's stories. Always chipper, even in horrible situations.

Father: 20s-40s. One actor to play three fathers in fables about mistreated children.

Mother: 20s-40s. One actress to play three mothers in fables about mistreated children.

Boy/Girl: Late teens-20s. One actress to play three children about 13 years old: a boy who is tortured by his parents; a girl who thinks she is Jesus reincarnated; and a mute girl.
