Only ONE MORE CHANCE to see Riverwalk’s “Masquerade” cabaret type show - 8pm tomorrow (today? When are you reading this?)
Director Sabrina Dahlgren has put together a refreshingly exotic holiday concoction: Christmas with a dash of Halloween and a mysterious diva vibe that may be just the thing for your holly daze. The masquerade theme adds a touch of mystery and the fabulous assortment of costumes could be an advertisement for The Costume Shop
https://www.riverwalktheatre.com/the-costume-shop.html — as well as a credit to the glam imagination of Costumer Zoë Schultheiss. Lots of sparkles and exotic masks.
My one complaint is that the individual singers and song titles/sources were not listed in the program, so it’s difficult to credit performers I don’t know personally. The show featured some familiar but not-always-sure-where-from songs… Tricia Rogers’ song from the point of view of a disgruntled Mrs. Claus added welcome humor to the spooky mix. Several operatic voices raised the roof (Riley Hirai.)
The entire cast was exciting in their group numbers and solo turns. Besides Tricia and Riley, performers were: Jazlyn Dingfelder, Lauren Hannum, Zach Husak, Tess Klygis, Meghan Malusek, Anthony Mandalari, Robert Mueller, Beck Murphy, and Evan Norton. Music is largely prerecorded but some (and pre-show music) was beautifully played by Sean Lebita; tomorrow it will be Max Gage.
No “set design” person was credited, but furniture, candles and a background Christmas tree — along with Code Skalkmowski’s lighting — enhanced the mood.
Audience members are (optionally) encouraged to dress up in their own “masquerade-y” glamour. Plan to arrive early to check out the impressive lobby art colleges (
