This is the last time you will hear from me (this year) unless you are an attendee….!  ;->

(Attendees will be receiving parking information later this week.  And I’m always available for questions, of course.)

We’re accepting new registrations up to tomorrow morning.  Tomorrow afternoon I have to provide an estimate of pizza numbers.

Speaking of pizza, could current attendees please email me a ballpark estimate of how many pizzas you will be ordering?  It can even be something like “usually all our teams order pizza,” or “usually about half of our teams order pizza.”  Any rough estimate would be a help.

Current attendees, as far as I know – please let me know of any corrections.

Scratch - If you do need to use our laptop(s), please reply to this email and let me know how many.  If I do not hear from you, I will assume you are bringing your own equipment.  If I do not hear from any Scratch coach, I will not check out a laptop cart.  (i.e., if I don’t hear from you and you do not bring a computer, you won’t have a computer!)

WE ARE STILL ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS!  WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU!

Last minute info:

Scratch, especially elementary and middle schools (in response to a question from a coach) – you may leave directly after the contest, but you’d miss the awards.  Also, programming contests should start on time, but sometimes don’t.  I would guess that 1PM would be a safe time to plan on leaving, knock on wood.  Arrive long enough before the start of the contest (9AM) to register, order pizza if desired, and get settled in.  I would suggest 8AM or so.  Any non-contest time at the beginning and end can be spent socializing with the other teams!

Scratch – it would be greatly preferable for each team to bring its own laptop and charger (and printer if desired).  If you do need to use our laptop(s), please reply to this email and let me know how many.

Java – if you are planning on bringing a Mac, plan on submitting your solutions via USB.

Java – the judges will be using Java 8.

Let me know if there’s anything else I haven’t addressed.

Here are the numbers I have so far – please send me your registration form if you haven’t, and let me know of any updates.

Subject: You are invited to the Dulles High School programming contest on February 3rd, 2018

I’m sure I’ll find some error/omission in my information/registration documents as soon as I hit “send,” but I gotta send this out sometime…..!

You are invited to the fourth annual Dulles programming contest on February 3rd, 2018!  We will have Java Advanced, Java Novice, and Scratch (for elementary, middle school, and high school novices) divisions, plus a UIL-style written test.   A detailed information form is attached.

The Scratch contests will be graded on the computer; the Java contests will use PC2.  A previous Scratch packet is attached – if you would like the keys, please email me.

Please reply, using the attached registration form, by Thursday, January 25th.  A rough estimate of numbers as soon as you can get it to me would be appreciated.  We can accommodate 100+ Java teams and at least 20 Scratch teams at each level, so hopefully everyone who wants to attend can do so.

Don’t hesitate to email or call if you have any questions.  Please feel free (nay, encouraged!) to forward this to anyone I’ve left out.  (Conversely, please forgive any duplicate or unwanted mailings, or let me know and I’ll correct my email list.)

Looking forward to seeing you!
