I’m writing this with a heavy heart. As many of us have learned over the past two days, David Morris was struck and killed by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Saturday morning. This is a tragic and devastating loss for our community.

David was a family man, mentor, and a part of the GEARs community as a member and ride leader. He loved riding with everyone, always had a smile on his face, and brought a positive and supportive spirit to every ride. He was quick to offer a wheel to keep the group together and never stopped encouraging those around him. Many of us felt a genuine connection to David, he had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and welcome. He had an incredibly big heart. I will miss him very much. Many of us will.

I know some of the online commentary has been hurtful and difficult to read. Those who knew David know that he was a responsible and experienced rider. He rode with care, respect, and awareness, values we all share as a community. Moments like this also remind us of the vulnerability cyclists face on the road. We all deserve to ride safely and to be treated with respect. It can be hard to make sense of why something so fundamental still requires advocacy, especially in the face of such loss.

Currently, we do not have official details regarding the circumstances. I kindly ask that everyone refrain from sharing speculation. Many are grieving the loss of a friend and fellow cyclist, and unverified information can make that process more difficult. While we may not yet understand what happened, we can honor David by sharing memories and stories that reflect who he was and what he meant to us.

We will share information about a memorial and any other important updates as soon as they are available. For now, I wanted to acknowledge this loss and express my sadness. I know how strong and caring our community is, and we will come together to support one another during this time. If anyone has questions or needs someone to talk to please do not hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Kayna Robison

President
