Russel;
I am glad that you brought this up. Today Rohre and I went to Tianjing
and helped Edward intoduce the sport of Ultimate to about 30 middle
school teachers. Despite the cold weather and rediculous winds, most
of the teachers were pretty interested in the sport. There is a good
chance that they will make the teaching of the sport part of their
curriculum this next year. The best thing is that Tianjin Speed
players will be taking on a large role in helping the PE teachers
provide the instruction to the students. This will make the process
truly sustainable.
What I think that the teachers liked the most was how simple the sport
could be. If you strip away all the travel calls and the rest of
it....you can still have a great time just tossing a disc with a
friend. And despite the high cost of discs in China...it is a pretty
cheap sport.
I will be happy to help out with this. If I am in Beijing I will make
sure to come out to help with these sessions where we can introduce
Ultimate to some of the local high schools. We may have troubles with
a lot of our community as most people work days, but hopefully we can
gather a small group that can help out. It might also be fun to run a
"Ultimate Camp" to get a couple of schools together and run them
through the basics.
Hopefully we can keep this idea rolling right into action.
JC.

i prefer not to think of all the misery but of all the beauty that still remains.
