to Greater China Ultimate
Hello everybody;

I just wanted to include an update on the preparations that we have
been making for this years tournament in Beijing on May 31 and June 1.

I have just pasted the Chinese and English details below. If you have
any questions or want the full PDF version of this text, please
contact me or Kelly Yang at yangy...@gmail.com.

There is quite a bit of information, so please read through it if you
have a chance.

报名表必须由队长填写;
如第一页表格不够,可填写两页;
如截至5月9日,队长还没有最终的确切信息,请填写现有信息;

每人每天45元的三人间,带有卫生间和淋浴;

We want to take this opportunity to update everybody on the details of
this year’s China Open in Beijing this May 31 & June 1. We have made a
lot of progress in preparing for the tournament and want to make sure
that everybody has all the latest information.

Tournament Location and Format
We have secured some great “real grass” fields 20 minutes driving from
Beijing’s CBD (Central Business District) in Tongzhou district. They
will quite likely be the nicest fields we have ever thrown plastic on
here in Beijing. We have been making regular trips to the fields to
see how they look (now that Beijing is out of the deep freeze) and
they look great. The location is relatively easy to reach by subway
plus a 10RMB taxi ride. All in all, we are very excited and if all
goes well, we hope to be able to claim that we have the best ultimate
fields in China.

At present we are expecting between 12 and 16 teams to come. There are
confirmed teams or individuals from Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin,
Dalian, Shenzhen, and Henan. There has also been interest from Hong
Kong, Qinhuangdao, Taipei among others. All in all we are looking at a
great lineup.

The gender ratio will be targeted to be 4 men/3 women, but we hope
that captains will be flexible with this as there will likely be
several teams that will have difficulties meeting this target.

The format of the tournament will be similar to last year. Saturday
will be pool play that will have Chinese and foreigner teams playing
against each other. Every team should get 4 games. Sunday will have a
Chinese bracket and a foreigner bracket. Every team will be guaranteed
2 games. There will be a showcase game with the most experienced
players from expat-teams of Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, and abroad.
The final game of the weekend will be the championship game from the
Chinese bracket.

Registration
We are including a registration form with this update. It is extremely
important that the captains of each team return the forms before May
9, 2008. A lot of the preparations require that we have an accurate
estimate of how many players will attend. So please follow these
guidelines:
Captain fills out one form per team.
If you do not have all the information at the time of May 9, please
send us what you do know.
For teams wishing to take part in the “Special Team Shirt” offer
described on page 3, payment of tournament fees must be made before
May 9, 2008 to the following banking information:

Tournament Fee’s
The tournament fee will be:
100 rmb for Chinese students
200 rmb for Chinese whom have graduated within the past 3 years
300 rmb for foreigners
Our tournament is not mature enough to rely on substantial support
from large sponsors. We hope you can encourage your team to support
our worthy endeavor as much as possible. Ultimately, we hope that
everybody understands that this sliding scale helps to introduce
ultimate to a lot of people that otherwise couldn’t afford it.

FAQ: I have friends that would like to come watch…..do they have to
pay?
Answer: If you have friends that would like to watch…that is great.
But if they want to take part in the Saturday party, and eat and drink
at the field, they will still have to pay a tournament fee of 100rmb.

What does my tournament fee get me?
Here are the details of what you can expect to receive for your
tournament fee:
Some great fields. We put a very high priority on making sure that we
have really great fields this year. We are confident that we have this
covered.
Field food. Along with a Chinese lunch each day, there will be snacks
available all day Saturday and Sunday. We will have lots of banana’s,
oranges, bread, peanut butter, jam, etc.
Field water: There will be no shortage of water. We will have plenty
of the large water jugs dispensing water. However, you will have to
bring your own water bottle.
Beer: There will be free beer at the fields and the party.
Saturday Party: This year’s party will be similar to last year’s
party. It will be close to the hotels and fields. Dinner and plenty of
beverages will be served. The one addition to this year’s party is an
important one. The theme of this year’s party is ….SKIT! To uphold the
age-old Chinese tradition of performance, each and every team will
have to perform a small skit in front of the party. It can be song and
dance or theater. As we will have around 15 teams we ask that the
skits are under four minutes. Come prepared.

In general, between the time that you arrive at the fields on Saturday
morning and when you leave Sunday afternoon, you will not have to pay
for anything (except for the hotel).

Accommodations
The hotels that we are currently looking to book will be close to the
fields. Your options are:
45rmb/person/night in a 3-bed room with WC+shower
60rmb/person/night in a 2-bed room with WC+shower
In another nearby hotel 30rmb/person/night in a 2-bed room with only
public WC and shower.
Of course, if you don’t need us to book a hotel for you, mark down on
the form that you will arrange your own accomodations.
Please note on the registration form which options you want for you
and your players so that we can arrange the hotel bookings for
everybody that needs them.

Travel Details
We expect many players to be arriving in Beijing by train on Saturday
morning. Please include the details of your incoming train on the
attached registration form. The fields can be reached within 45-60
minutes of arriving at the Beijing station.
We cannot arrange everybody’s travel for them. But we all know how
difficult it can be to buy return train tickets. For this reason we
want to help you buy return train tickets for the Sunday night after
the tournament. If you want help with buying return train tickets,
please include the relevant train number information on the attached
registration form. Train info is available at http://qq.ip138.com/train/.
Once we know that you need us to buy a return ticket for you, we will
be in touch so that you can make advanced payment.

Special Shirt Offer
As a special offer to teams made up of Chinese nationals,
‘FiveUltimate’ has offered to provide a FREE set of “custom printed”
jersey’s for the team. The requirements for this awesome opportunity
are:
Your team must be made up of 75% Chinese nationals.
You must pay your team tournament fees before May 9, 2008.
If your team qualifies for this offer, we will be in touch with you
about shirt colors and designs.

Sunday Evening Meeting and the Path Forward
This collection of teams and players from all over China will provide
a great chance for us to talk over the next year of Ultimate. A casual
but directed discussion could facilitate building the future of
Ultimate in China.
In addition, we would like to formally open the discussion about the
2009 China Open. Last year the tournament was held in Tianjin. This
year will be in Beijing. 2009? Dalian? Nanjing? Ningbo? We would like
nothing more than to announce the venue of the 2009 China Open at the
conclusion of this year’s tournament. So if there are any interested
parties out there….please contact us ASAP.

For Individuals
If you want to play in the tournament but don’t have a complete team
to join, you are not alone. We expect quite a few individuals will
want to participate. If this sounds like you, we will make sure to
find a place on a team that suits you. Please fill out the form for
individuals so that we know what kind of team will be best for you.
