Job Purpose

The Application Development Manager applies proven technical, communication and problem-solving skills to guide development teams in the creation and deployment of mission critical information systems.  With senior technical leaders, sets direction for the application development group to align with ASB’s strategic priorities and is a key contributor to the continual improvement of IT service quality.  The position coordinates and supervises activities related to the design, development, and implementation of new ASB information systems and directs maintenance, support, and upgrade of existing system and applications.  This position will directly manage our Business Analysts and Business Intelligence teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • With senior technical leaders and business partners, align corporate business and software strategies and plans to ensure the timely execution of those strategies
  • Foster an environment in which application developers have a high level of engagement, challenge, and commitment to quality and customer service
  • Understand the overall business strategy and requirements for the company and for specific departments
  • Manage the development and deployment of new applications and/or enhancements to existing application throughout the enterprise
  • Ensure that development projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements and identify and resolve systems issues
  • Direct analysts and developers in the testing of information systems
  • Provide technical leadership to applicable development team working on development project teams
  • Review and analyze existing application effectiveness and efficiency to develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems
  • Research and recommend software products and services to support development efforts
  • Ensure that any new software integration into ASG systems meets functional requirements, system compliance and interface specifications
  • Manage resource allocation and monitoring productivity levels of development team members in support of business operations
  • Assist in developing financial plans and annual budgets for application development projects
  • Cultivate, disseminate, and enforce functional policies, procedures and best practices
  • Meet regularly with direct reports to review project, performance, and personnel issues
  • Coach and develop direct reports and support them in the development of their respective teams where applicable
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or Computer Science
  • 8+ years direct experience in full life cycle software development
  • 5+ years leading multiple software development teams in a fast paced application development environment
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong knowledge of system and software best practices and methodologies
  • Proven competency in delivering high quality solutions
  • Able to implement processes within IT and ensure they are followed
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
  • Able to adjust priorities and execute tasks in a high pressure environment
  • Experience working in a team oriented, collaborative environment
  • Technical skills:  Knowledge of JAVA i-Series, SQL, and DB2 databases, preferred
  • Knowledge of database design and file management techniques, preferred
  • Able to research application development issues and projects
  • Experience with M3 ERP system from Infor is a plus
