Special Event Station -- W8CJQ:

We will be operating a special event station from Saturday, May 26 - Monday, May 28, 2012 from the S.S. Keewatin, Douglas, MI using the callsign W8CJQ.

It is a 105 year old passenger coal burning steamship. Part of the Canadian Pacific Railway, it was retired and scheduled for scrap in 1967. Tower Marine owner, RJ Peterson purchased the ship, saving it from the scrapyard, brought it to Saugatuck/Douglas, MI where she has been a museum ever since.

We have operated from the SS Keewatin for the past 3 years using the callsign K8CJQ for the International Museum Ship Weekend, the first weekend in June. However, it will be returning to Canada, leaving Douglas on May 30th.

This will be the last American operation from the ship. There is a group of Canadian hams who are hoping to continue the IMSW for 2013.

Thank you.

Terrie Hazekamp, W8CJQ
