There is definitely a problem with FirefoxPortable 2.0.0.3 and
Greasemonkey.

I 'installed' FP 2.0.0.3 to C:\. Fresh download and it created and
populated a C:\FirefoxPortable directory. I downloaded and installed
Greasemonkey 0.6.9.

When I load a Greasemonkey script in the browser, Greasemonkey offers
to install it. I tell it to install the script. Nothing happens. The
script does not show up in Greasemonkey. There is a C:\FirefoxPortable
\Data\profile\gm_scripts directory, and all users have write access to
this directory and its contents.

Right-clicking on the Greasemonkey icon and selecting Manage User
Scripts shows no scripts installed. Right-clicking the Greasemonkey
icon, and selecting New User Script does successfully create a script,
so the work-around is to 'create' a new script and paste in the
content that I wanted to install.

This used to work -- with an older Firefox Portable and an older
Greasemonkey. Unfortunately I don't know when it quit.

I'm guessing that some part of the Greasemonkey script-installer
insists on having the profile somewhere under the C:\Documents and
Settings tree, while the rest is willing to work with a profile that
has been relocated by Firefox Portable.

Any way to make GM script-installs work with FP?

It'll take a bit of work to figure out which. Thankfully, it's not
hard, just tedious. You can do it no matter your skill level. Get
yourself various versions of FF Portable and GM, and start trying them
together.

The less work someone has to do to fix a bug, the more likely they are
to do it =) Once you know the smallest range of version that does and
version that doesn't work, for either or both, I'd suggest you file a
ticket about it:
