Tebfin Office Interior by Source Interior Brand Architects Posted: 24 Jan 2011 09:35 PM PST Source Interior Brand Architects have designed an office interior in Johannesburg, South Africa. . Tebfin Office Interior by Source Interior Brand Architects Positioned on top of a new hotel with breath-taking views of Sandton, the location of a Johannesburg financial services company’s new corporate offices influenced an unusual design brief for Source Interior Brand Architects. Tebfin’s new 1 300m² offices are in keeping with the international trend for creating expressive work-environments. Their vision was outlined to Source Interior Brand Architects as “luxury, warmth and confidence”. “The client summarised these elements as ‘the hotel lobby look’ and it thus made sense to work with a design studio which is equally comfortable in the corporate and hospitality design sectors,” says Source IBA project creative director Jeremy Stewart. “While Source has a well-established corporate design team, we assembled a project-team from our hospitality division in order to really achieve a uniquely polished look consistent with the client brief,” Stewart explains. With a focus on luxurious finishes, rich colours and textural contrast, the design team established a visual language that is warm, professional and manicured. Set against a three dimensional envelope of tonal greys, sharp expressions of pure white, black or even a cheeky yellow keeps the scheme fresh. A baseline of stark rectilinear shapes is established by room modules, ceiling details and main joinery. This is complemented with faceted shapes echoed in diagonal details like table legs and the impressive screen to the reception area. Layered with softer elements, like Iris Maschek wallpaper to the boardrooms and textured wall-finishes, the result is a clean and assertive space with depth and conviction. Different zones are distinguished through the proportions in which the palette of black, tonal greys and white accented with strong yellow or warm walnut are applied. The reception, boardroom and lounge areas have darker colours with the palette lightening through the executive office area into the call centre. Here, the long charcoal internal wall is offset with floor to ceiling yellow pin boards and banks of pure white desks and joinery to create a work environment that is energetic, fresh and relevant. With another magnificent Johannesburg vista, the staff pause area, complete with barista-grade coffee machine, returns to the darker tones to signal a slower mood. “Bold, self-assured and welcoming, this luxurious space would be equally comfortable in one of the many hospitality centres that surround it,” Stewart said. 25 000 Ping Pong Balls, a Perfect Way to Jazz Up a Small Brooklyn Apartment Posted: 24 Jan 2011 08:53 PM PST We don’t really know if Daniel Arsham, the inhabitant of this unique apartment wanted to take his passion to another level or was just looking for a creative way to decorate the walls of his current crib. According to Homedit , there are no less than 25000 ping pong balls decorating this 90 square foot Brooklyn apartment, which in consequence has an interesting “pixelated” effect. The small loft is located above the offices of Snarkitecture , the architecture company towards which Daniel climbs down the stairs in order to go to work: T he place is a study in simplicity. Arsham’s got a bed with some built-in shelves and a dresser, where he keeps a few clothes. To enter the loft, he climbs a ladder through the office’s employee bathroom. This is definitely not a design for the masses. But when it comes to applying it to bachelor’s den, it couldn’t be more inspired. . Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below ! Creative Upholstered Pendant Lamps for Original Interiors Posted: 24 Jan 2011 07:54 PM PST It is very rare we see lamps that have such an unusual exterior. Found on plusMood , Clamp is an intriguing lighting design by DZ Studio which comes with a unique personality. The black and white upholstery turns these pendant lamps into “cozy” items, ones that can be better integrated in a warm home. Here is more from the designers: The inspiration comes from the pattern of Chesterfield sofas (Capitonné) applied to the exterior surface of the lamp. It was hard to define the right size of every rhomb and find the quality of leather that could fit the radius of the hemispheric surface. We have chosen a soft and first quality leather used in the clothing industry that could stretch perfectly for our requirements. The contrast between the smooth interior and the sophisticated, deep buttoned exterior is ideal for a modern interior space with a touch of glamor and classic style . Freshome readers, do you find these pendant lamps appealing or too extravagant? Ready for more amazing design ideas? Check below ! Posted: 24 Jan 2011 05:15 PM PST Alain Gilles just sent us their latest projects which will be showcased for the first time at the fair Facilitair in Holland and at the OFF fair in Cologne The BuzzHub is a shelter in which you can retrieve with a co-worker when you need some privacy. It is a place where you can escape from the surrounding noise and agitation generally found in large open-space offices or public places. Bring in, your notes, laptop or iPad and start focusing on what matters. It’s a space where people can easily come together and share information. It has been designed to become a central point in the social life of an office. It is a warm and comfortable environment made to facilitate communication and improve personal well being. It can be used as a module with which architects can play with in order to define spaces, bring warmth and perspectives to larger open areas. It is available in several colors (pink, lime, orange, grey, black, white,… ) and can also be customized using different color combination. It is fully upholstered with recycled fabric. BUZZIBLINDS – VERSATIL ACCOUSTICAL ROOM DEVIDERS by Alain Gilles for Buzzispace These rotating acoustical blinds take their inspirations from modernist architecture and more specifically from the exterior sunshades that can be found from instance on modernist buildings designed by Oscar Niemeyer in Brasilia. And also by the rhythm and tonalities created by the orientation of these sunshades. The concept has been turned into elements that can define and partition open-space offices. Like in a game of hide and seek space will be more or less visible depending on the angle they are looked at… thus changing the perception of the architecture depending on the point of view. People will also be able to determine the level of openness they want or may need at given moment to concentrate on a specific task by rotation the different elements of the “blinds”. BIG TABLE – MASSIVE WOOD VERSION Design Alain Gilles for Bonaldo After being awarded a Good Design Award by the Chicago Architecture and design Museum in 2009 with a veneer tabletop. The Big Table is now also available with a prestigious massive walnut wood version. Alain Gilles

Featured Artist: Mallory Page Chastant Posted: 24 Jan 2011 04:31 PM PST Modern art (well, art of all types) can elicit a variety of feelings as wide as the entirety of the human emotional spectrum. Sometimes we feel in the mood for art that gets our blood flowing and excites us. Other times we need art that brings our blood pressure down as it relaxes and inspires us. The art of Mallory Page Chastant does just that. Inspired by different coastal landscapes throughout the South, Mallory blends her uniquely soft subject matter with arresting color palettes featuring sea greens, light blues, grays, ochres and other earth colors that any South Louisianian would be familiar with, and that any person could enjoy. Harsh edges and outlines are traded in for lovely, amorphous shapes that move and meld in an intoxicating way that gives her paintings a lot of energy and movement. Simple compositions give the viewer a rest from frenetic subject matter of other modern artists, making way for a calming, relaxing and recharging art viewing experience. So the winner will receive this cool beakyandbe – ‘Owl in Wall’ decal to add to your home. You could win the 'Owl in Tree' wall decal for your home! Freshome sits down and talks to Bernadett Butson, as she explains how her and her partner, Laura Thompson started their ETSY store. Also, check out a few of their wall decals showcased here and go to their store to see the entire collection for your home. Each one is unique and would look great in any room. Paper Cranes FRESHOME: How did you come up with the name of your ETSY store – beakyandbe , and how did you and your partner meet? B&B (beakyandbe): My name is Bernadett Butson and everyone calls me “be”. I graduated from the V.C.A- (Victorian College of the Arts) in 1998. I have spent the past 15 years doing event design/styling. I am a freelancer and my company’s name is called ‘ be design’ . My partners name is Laura Thompson ”beaky” and “loske” are her nicknames. Loske Graduated from “COFA” Center of Fine Arts in 2005. Loske is a very talented painter and graphic designer. We met while designing and making sets and props for Mardigras in Sydney, Australia. Utensils FRESHOME: What are the specialties of beakyandbe, and what made you start your ETSY store? B&B: beakyandbe gives us the opportunity for a bit of artistic outlet. We get to design and manufacture what we want, and enjoy the thrill of knowing it is exhibiting in people’s homes throughout the world. We are not traditional sign makers, everything in beakyandbe is original direct from us – (a lot of other decal companies purchase and manufacture other designers work and do not credit them for it). As beakyandbe expands the plan is to hire only talented designers/ artists who then get the satisfaction of producing their own work. Chandelier FRESHOME: Your wall stickers are so cool! How do you all pick the designs, and do you offer custom, or specialty requests? B&B: Aww shucks, thank you! We are both mad about modern Japanese culture. Tokyo is a mecca for funky urban design. I guess that influences us quite a bit but in reality there is not really a massive editing process it just starts with doodles of things that inspire us and we think is cool and goes from there. Yes we do custom jobs. We are professional designers so are very used to taking a brief and producing specialty work. We get a great deal of satisfaction out of knowing our designs work well in individual people’s homes. Birdcages and Birds FRESHOME: How can Freshome readers visit your online store?
