Well, da advices which i m going to give u, are based on a lot of
experience. People who hav a very gud vocab will definitely agree wid
me. Here r da advices :

Luk Rekha, wenever U come across a word, whose meaning is not known to
you, den and den, check out its meaning in da dictionary and observe
how it is used in da sentence(where u came across dis word) and try to
use dat word in a sentence of ur own.
U can even make a copy, where u can write down da meaning of new
words, wenever u come across any and u can go thru dat copy wenever u
feel like. Dis way, U will remain in touch wid da words, even if u
dont use dem in writing or speaking, and hence dere is no way, u will
forget da meaning of dose words, nd wid tym, da meaning of dose words
will get entrenched in ur memory forever !

Apart frm da above, U can simply randomly browse da dictionary, write
down da meaning of words, not known to u and also see, how and when
dey r used in a sentence. If ur dictionary does not have da sentence,
den u can check out www.dictionary.com or install ne dictionary (like
dat of cambridge) in ur computer, which has sentences too.

Den, U shud also buy one thesaurus, if u dont hav it and make a copy
of synonyms. Ok, think, how many synonyms of da word 'walk', do u know
?? If u know 5, den u hav a good vocab...if u know 6-9, den u hav a
very good vocab....if u know 10 or more, den u hav an excellent vocab.
Leaving aside dis vocab test, I must tell u dat u dont really hav to
know da exact meaning of a word. Its enough to know dat words like
'crave', 'yearn','hanker for', 'long for' means 'desire'...u dont
really hav to know, if dey mean strong desire or weak desire. Da more
exact meaning, u will try to memorise, da more da chances of u,
forgetting da meaning. Though, if u can remember da exact meaning, dan
its gud. But, dont put ne stress on knowing da exact meaning of words.
Even da best GRE verbal teachers will advise u da same thing.

Apart frm da above, U can even install a dictionary in your cell ! I m
having a dictionary named "Advanced Learners Dictionary" in my cell.
And, wenever, i come across a new word, i dont even hav to undergo da
burden of getting da dictionary and den flip thru da pages of dat
bulky dictionary to get to da word, i m luking for. Instead, i simply
hav to press a few buttons on my cell, nd i get to knw da meaning of
dat word, and wid a sentence too !! Awesum na !! I can even randomly
browse thru different words, while comfortably lying on bed...Think
abt it...dis is a wonderful way of quickly improving ur vocab...

And, rekha, i must tell u, ask anyone hu is hav an excellent vocab,
he/she will advise u da same things as i hav advised, or tell dem abt
da advices which i hav given u, i m sure dey will definitely agree wid
me.

Hoping da advices will help.. :)

With Best Wishes,
Piyush...

Dear Rekha,

Everyday, memorize at least three English words and write them down on a piece of paper. Try to review such list daily, but don’t forget that you should also learn how the words are used… For instance, Americans say “do homework” and not “make homework”, though “to do” and “to make” have the same meaning. If you have prepared for a Test, like GRE or Toefl, the list should by and large have words from test’s exercises.

So that is my advice. Make a list, add words daily and, mainly, reread the list frequently. Doing so, you will learn at least 90 words a month.

I hope it helps you.
