Dear students and parents/guardians:
On behalf of our teachers at Grand Rapids Chinese Language School, I'd like to welcome you all to a new semester! The first day of the fall semester is September 7, 2013. Classes will be held in the Eberhard Center of Grand Valley State University in downtown Grand Rapids and run from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.
On September 7, you are all invited to join us for our Open House during the first session (from 1:30 to 2:20) of the first day’s class. This is an opportunity for our teachers to introduce themselves and share with you their syllabi, rules, and thoughts on teaching Chinese language and culture. It is also an opportunity for the students or their parents and guardians to understand the school better and communicate their expectation to the teacher. I hope all of you will take full advantage of this opportunity.
In order to ensure a safe and smooth beginning of the semester, I encourage all of you to read through the following attached documents before the semester starts:
--Registration form Fall 2013.pdf and Word (The school calendar and classroom locator are at the end of the form)
--Release form
On September 7, please make sure you complete the following:
1) All students are required to complete the registration form (Registration form Fall 2013.pdf).
2) Returning students or their parents/guardians are required to pay full tuition to the teacher of the student’s class. We strongly encourage you to pay in checks instead of cash.
3) Students or their parents/guardians should consider signing the release form if you did not do so last semester. If you decide not to sign, please write a short note to me, or Vice Principal Wei Sun, or Provost Yili Bonarski.
!!Please note that this semester the names of the Chinese class/level have changed: we have changed “Kindergarten” to “Level 1.” As a consequence, other classes and levels have changed accordingly. For example, if a student was in “Level 3” last semester, this semester the student should be enrolled in “Level 5” instead of “Level 4.” The names of CSL class/level remain unchanged.
Please download and print the attached forms and complete them prior to the first day of class. If you can’t download and print the forms, please arrived at school by 1:15 pm on September 7 and ask for a hard copy from the teacher or the administrative staff.
New students are not required to pay tuition on the first day of school. They are permitted to sit in a class on the first day (with permission from school). If the students would like to continue after this trial lesson, they should pay the tuition before the next class.
The first day of school will be the busiest of the year. We would like to thank you in advance for your help and support to make the first day a success. We’re sure you will have an exciting and rewarding new semester!
Please help spread the information about GRCLS to anyone who is interested in Chinese language and culture.
