Keith,
I'm sure it'll stop when school starts back.

It hasn't really done any harm at all Keith - traffic has gone up but we've
got a _lot_ of bandwidth down here so there's never going to be dramas
there, but sales have gone up dramatically and are still consistently high
this week :-) (so I guess it's an equal trade-off... they waste their time
sending spam, I do nothing and make money from it, and as the finger
eventually points to Lockdown, they probably lose sales (i'd say credibility
as well, but they never had that to begin with))
But I agree with you - I haven't seen such a childish attack before as this.
It's a bit boring and drawn out, but I guess it's to be expected from a
trojan author. Wonder how much Michael Paris aka. Lockdown is paying him? -
probably more than he makes on his after-school job - there is _no way_ any
trojan author would ever support an anti-trojan program with such passion if
there wasn't something big in it for them. The things people do to make a
buck huh?

Best regards,
Wayne

Always knew there was a good reason not to put an email address in when
posting to newsgroups ;).

Your right, it does sound like a kid having a temper tantrum. And your
getting more business out of it. Bet that'll really get him mad, he
might..gosh..send some more emails...that rascal!

The newsgroup gets a troll team that eventually admits its
inspiration in Wayne's criticism of Paris and Lockdown, they fizzle,
then five of us -- and I think more -- get mail bombs, and we've
already located the team in Dover, New Hampshire ... I think he's on
safe ground, Paris would have to hire an Australian attorney to
complain about it.

The five are Keith, you, me, Wayne, and Andras -- those to Andras
bounce, I have hundreds of them showing the rejection. Keith is the
defendant, you're raising funds, I'm a PCHelper, Wayne criticized
Lockdown, and Andras has one of PCHelpers' servers. Half, at least,
of the emails coming to me go through pchelpers.org, some come direct
to earthlink.net, I guess they don't have my other email addresses
(no surprise).

Is Paris paying them? No clue, it doesn't matter. They're
obviously acting on Paris' behalf, just as PCHelpers is acting on
Keith's behalf -- and neither is particularly actionable in the case.
But in terms of showing patterns of conduct and relationship to
other Web users, would you rather be associated with PCHelpers or the
Sub Seven crew? Isn't it convenient for a trojan killer to have a
support group among trojan writers? It could reach his bottom line a
lot faster than he expects.

What's he going to do, deport me from Australia for newsgroup posts? US law
is for US citizens only...

In historical view deporting FROM Australia would be new :)

Anyway, it's no doubt your decision. Just being carefull.

There's a "new" one on the road btw: ro...@ns.itochu.co.in (not
that new, but anyway).

I see nothing related to the mailbomb - well, maybe they are really stupid script kiddies :)

You're up to scratch on your history of Australia David? :-) To my
knowledge the only people ever deported from Australia were sex offenders
and people charged with war crimes (although even then I don't think any of
the latter were Australian citizens), and as I do a lot of work regularly
for several branches of the Western Australian and Australian Federal Police
it would take a lot more than an accusation on a newsgroup to have me
deported by a government I work for. But I've never committed a crime in my
life, and here in Australia (as I thought was the case in the USA) we have
freedom of speech. It's work here as normal -- although I'm enjoying a
bourbon and coke while I work this evening due to some extra funds brought
in this week :-)

Cheers, and enjoy the rest of the week,
Wayne / DiamondCS.com.au

PS. Just had a check at the folder where all the Lockdown/Sub7 spam is being
archived - I'm also getting them from the root address, but they're all
still getting filtered before they can enter the mailstream :-) Impact
factor zero. Comedy factor... I'll get back to you on that. (When does
school start back again?)

abujamal,

Seems it didn't affect you eloquence in writing <grin>.

Anyway, as Wayne has pointed out, he feels safe. That's fine.

Your explanation why at least the four of us has been picked out,
could well be true; we probably never know for sure.

Wayne,

Enjoy your bourbon and coke. Haven't the faintest when school starts
- except my son's. Leaving me with just one burning question; why
on earth did you Aussies choose to remain a dominion - never really
understood that. Could be me, on the other hand :)

cheers,

What do you mean by dominion exactly - you mean why did we choose not to
break away from Great Britain and become a republic? Buggered if I know - I
voted for the republic, but that WILL happen some day soon! There are a lot
of issues involved though - the English Queen's head is on all our coins,
there are strong military ties, the British Union Jack is on the top
left-hand corner of our flag, etc... lots of issues need to be dealt with
first, but remember Australia has only been colonised for some two hundred
years so maybe we should keep holding the Queens hand for a little bit
longer. <grin>

Cheers,

I've never had spam to my 'Reply-to: ' address (attributable to UseNet
use), FWIW, despite many posts on Usenet.

Spam-trap the 'From: ' address by all means, but it's really friendly to
give a valid will-be-looked-at 'Reply To: ' addy.
