Hi friends,

We received certain information from an official working in Fisheries Department regarding violation of certain G.O. and misuse of public funds. I am summarizing the issue here, as per his words:

There are 2 types of boat named `Motorised` and `Mechanized` boats (and also we have rowing boats). Mechanized boat is of higher capacity and speed. The months of April, May is when the fishes reproduce and so there is a fishing ban to Mechanized boats and their crew for 45 days. This is in effect from 2001. Since the fishermen completely depend on Fishing for their livelihood and they are banned to work for 45 days, Government of Tamil Nadu gives them a benefit of Rs. 2000 as a compensation.
Since fisherman with Motorised boats are not banned from fishing this benefit dont apply to them.

We have more than 5000 mechanized boats in TN and If we assume each boat has a 10 member crew, the benefit should go to 50000 people. But in reality, more than 1,50,000 fishermen are receiving the benefit, because of the mis interpretation of the G.O. by the authorities.

Our Informer already seems to have discussed this internally, but in vein. He now asked certain Judges for legal opinion on this to confirm his stand, that he will update us soon.
