Biathlon on the Performance Monitor
The Performance Monitor stores interval time, range time and total elapsed time for all workouts. The biathlon function on the monitor allow you to ski intervals alternating with target shooting.
Suggested Workouts Using Undefined Rest/Biathlon
First, decide what you will use for the target/accuracy aspect of this workout. In real biathlon, you shoot at five targets at a distance of 50 meters and you face a penalty for each one you miss.
Here are a few suggestions:
The 2012 Singapore Biathlon is just less than 24 hours away. By now, you would have already tapered down your training and making your final preparations for the race. Here are some tips on what you should do the day before, during and after your race on March 3rd.
Before heading to bed, do get your race gear ready. Prepare and lay out your race attire. Make sure you are using a good fitting set of goggles for the swim leg to prevent abrasions to your head. If you are using heart rate monitors and accelerometers, ensure batteries are fresh. If you are carrying your own drinks or carbohydrate gels, get them ready and place them next to your race attire.
Have an early night, not too early that you have problems falling asleep. If you cannot sleep, just lie quietly and rest. Refrain from taking sleeping pills as their effect may linger beyond the race morning.
ON RACE DAY
Before you head down to East Coast Park, remember to have a light breakfast. Do also apply lubricants to areas that are prone to abrasions. Note down your targeted time to reach set distances on your forearm using a marker. This will help you keep track of your goal for the race.
Do aim to arrive at least an hour and a half before your start time. This will give you ample time to register and set up your transition area before the race begins. While you are waiting for the race to start, take the time to familiarise yourself with the swim route as well as the run route. Remember to also take the time to warm up properly before the start of your race. Before heading to your swim start, apply anti fogging lotion on your goggles to prevent them from fogging up during your swim leg.
The importance of hydration cannot be over-emphasized. The average runner loses 0.47 to 1.52 litres of water per hour, mainly through sweat. It has been estimated that your pace can drop by 2% for every 1% of weight loss by dehydration, so a good hydration strategy not only reduces the risk of heat injury but it will also improve your performance. Look out for all the water points along the race route. It is important to continue to hydrate yourself throughout the run.
During the run leg of the race, remember to pace yourself. Do not be tempted to increase your speed to overtake unless you are very confident. Endurance and stamina are vital in a biathlon and your stamina could be directly affected by a sudden burst of speed.
AFTER THE RACE
Right after the race, most runners just want to lie flat on the floor. However, this may cause your muscles to tighten up even more. Warm down adequately. Do some light stretches as soon as you get through the finish line. Gently stretch for 10 to 30 seconds by standing and walking around to allow your muscles to recover. Allow your muscles to recover by standing and walking around.
Remember to rehydrate yourself until you pass relatively clear urine after your race. Have a small snack after the race to replenish your energy store. A sandwich or energy bar can help to restore your glycogen store.
The padded shoulder straps distribute the weapon's load to both shoulders, instead of one, resulting in less shooter fatigue after long periods of travel. Having the load centered on the back aids in maintaining better balance when using two hands for other tasks such as carrying a primary weapon, or navigating steep terrain.
The biathlon slings do not require a conversion kit in order to fit it to different rifles. You will need to just have additional attachments to fit your stock. So if you purchase a biathlon sling with Flush Cups and you have another rifle that requires HK hooks, you will just need to have a set of HK hooks.
Coverage of biathlon has risen significantly across Europe over the past two decades, rising from ten members showing coverage in 2003 to 25 members and associate members for the 2022/26 seasons. The number of hours of IBU biathlon competition viewed in the 2023/24 season also increased by 86 per cent to 561 million viewed hours when compared to 2003/04.

When British skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won the Olympic gold medal in ice dance at Sarajevo 1984 with 12 perfect 6.0s from every judge, for their interpretation of Maurice Ravel's Bolro, an important member of their team was singer-actor Michael Crawford. Crawford, who had played Frank Spencer in British sitcom Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em and the title role in the musical The Phantom of the Opera, had become a mentor to the pair in 1981 and went on to help them create their Olympic routine. Crawford said he taught them how to act". He was present with their trainer Betty Callaway at the ringside at Sarajevo as they created one of the most iconic moments in Olympic history.

Pierre de Coubertin once said cricket has "practically no appeal for those who are not British". While he expressed doubts about the Olympic viability of cricket, lacrosse and baseball, Philip Barker wonders how the man who helped revive the modern Games would have reacted to new sports at Los Angeles 2028.
Traditional biathlon combines skiing and rifle shooting. In a biathlon race, there are five targets to hit after an interval of skiing. For each target you miss, you ski a penalty lap. The biathlon feature on the PM5 allows you to use any erg: row, ski or bike. Penalties can be creative!
Joining this race for 3 years in a row, I prefer biathlon to a triathlon, because I really do not like to stress out cycling. I always feel cycling is a chillax activity and should be done in a relaxed manner where you can ride and eat.
At first there were no news about the event, usually there will be an e mail sent to past participants around the beginning of the year but there was no news, so I began to wonder if the organisers were going to do it this year. Then around mid Jan I saw the post on their Facebook publicizing the race this year. Without ado, I signed up, the registration this year was $30 for early birds.
I chose to ride the bicycle to Woodlands stadium this time thinking that it will be a good step up training towards the 70.3 in May. The ride to Woodlands stadium is about 16Km, Sunday mornings are the best for riding as there are lesser traffic. The organizer sent one e mail before the race on the reporting time and start time. Setting off about 6:30Am , I reached the stadium about 7:15 Am and had ample time to set up the transition area. This time I chose a Funkita one piece for the swim and for the run I lugged on an Under amour short pants.
There was no stress at the swim portion since it was dispatched one by one like last year. This time I did a jump into the water, but from the photos, it seemed to be quite far from what I expected it to be. Swimming through the 8 laps , I managed to overtake at least 2 people this time although feeling a bit breathless, but got to give it to the Oceanman training last year, allowing me to understand speed work in pool a bit more.
I think my timing should be more of less the same as last year, after coming out of the water, I rush off to the transition and put on the run gear, this year I anticipated the sun and brought not just the hat but also the sunglasses to cover up. I must say the run this year gave me a bit of a mojo, and I was only taken over by Itsuko, a friend from MR 25. She is really fast and not just in the running but all other disciplines. As the weather gets hotter, I managed to finish the whole thing before 9 am.
So after collecting the goodie bag, I packed up and got ready to go home cycling. Was shocked to receive a call from the organiser that I got 3rd place! Stoked! As I thought my swim might not have gotten me any further. Quite happy to receive the 100 dollars NTUC voucher, making this race a free one for me.
