Hollynn,  I thought I had joined the google group but apparently not.  I think I have done it now and am just waiting for "approval" from Robyn.
The way to post hours was not clear to me either.  Maybe now it will be.  That is a good idea - I know that that data is crucial for many grants.

Robyn, I think you should add a place to describe the activity.  This will be important later.  Also, I went to the site but it wasn't clear to me where and how to add my hours.  I aplogize about being so dense about this.
HolLynn
I handed out sheets at the last funding meeting for members to track their time.  I will also send out the form to the group at large, and post it on the google group.  Or, maybe not?  This is very confusing. . . .

Your volunteer work with the Graton Green Group is valuable, and we
want to keep track of our collective contribution. Please read about
this effort on the new page linked below, and start tracking your own
time right away.

Click on http://groups.google.com/group/gratongreengroup/web/volunteer-hours-worked
- or copy & paste it into your browser's address bar if that doesn't
work.

Thanks!!

Thanks for pointing out the need to see a brief description of the
volunteer activity; I've added a bit on the example on the Page, and
invite you to try entering your own activity, to see if/how it works.

I wanted to post an Excel doc in the Files section, but realized that
only I would be able to update it - files are for viewing only, not
sharing. That's why I went with a Page. It's a little messier, but I
hope it serves our purpose. I'll upload info from the Page to the File
spreadsheet, if things go as I picture them. Stay tuned, and keep
sending your ideas and feedback!

Robyn,

Another reason for the description is that volunteer activity is valued differently.  Board members have one value, someone offering a service like construction would be valued at that rate, etc.  So in a proposal you can put the actual value of "inkind" contributions.  Independent Sector generates these values periodically for those writing grants.

I learned at the Open Space matching grants workshop that we can't
count the value of volunteer hours already worked toward our match,
only the projected hours for the future. That will be even harder to
compute, and you're right that the hours will have different values
depending on what's being done (or will be done). I'll have more to
tell at the meeting on Saturday. For now, I think we can abandon the
tracking, but we can decide together after discussion.
