What was your favorite show, and why?

I've never been able to pick just one. My ratings for shows always
went something like: It had a few good songs to that was a really good
show to that's one for the ages. I can't really think of a show that
doesn't have something to offer. The band also changed it's sound over
the years from the dance hall '66 sound to the jazzy '73/'74 era to
the heavy '77 sound to the Brent era in the 80's and then Vince era in
the 90's. While certain eras are stornger overall, I can find shows
for the ages in any era.

I agree with Jerry. You can always find highlights in each show. The
hottest shows i ever attended were 03/29/90,03/30/90(very underrated
compared to the night before),07/16/90 and 09/26/91.Like a friend of
mine used to say "It's not like i see them every day so i never
complain about what or how they play."

I agree with you both. A better opening discussion question might have
been "What were your favorite shows?" Certain shows stand out for me
after in some cases, over 25 years. The 4th of July, 1984 in Cedar
Rapids, IA marked the first time some of my friends and I went out of
state to see the boys. That was my first Help>Slip>Franklins, and
every show from Summer '85, from Alpine 6/21/85 (I missed the Greeks)
to the only indoor show at Pitt Civic Arena 7/2/85 had their epic
moments, and for me, were shows for the ages. My first Shakedown
6/30/85 Merriweather Post Pavillion was massive. The fist night in the
UIC Pavillion in Chicago in April, 1987 also really stands out for me.
This was the first non-Cali show after Jerry's collapse and subsequent
coma. my friends and I called Jerry "New Jerry", and he was really
animated on stage during that three show run. The Scarlet was a
meltdown. For me, being out on Dead Tour with my friends were the
happiest times of my life. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Saw my firt show in 79 last show was Brents last show some shows
were better than others every year had its highlights summer of 86 got
bad after Akron,Ohio but the Akron 86 show was hot check it out the
rubber bowl had a wild sound Riverbend Ohio 85 was unreal cryptical-
drums-comes a time-other one-cryptical-wharf rat check it out Giant
Stadium 87 with Bob Dylan they were on fire from the Promised land-
Bertha on opened the second set with MORNING DEW come on how often
does that happen and the set with Dylan was off the hook i think it
was the only Wicked Messenger they played together ultra psychodelic
just a few that stand out in my mind Terrapin from Hampton 87 one
of the best Birdsong Cole Field House u of Md 81 very under rated
shows Philly Civic Center 84 all 3 shows insane playing Telluride 87

Riverbend was phenomenal. I loved the Tennessee Jed on the Ohio River with my brother Steve, and my first Smokestack Lightning was awesome! Rubberbowl was fun, Dylan was hammered and slurring. Dead were good. Had the Richmond '85's on cassettes bak in the day. I should d/l the Charlie Miller SBDs if there are any. Those would be great suggestions for the Hunter Seamon's Matrix treatment. I remember a Morning Dew from that Richmond run was amazing! Missed Richmond '85, but did get off a bus (literally) in Richmond in Spring '86 for the memorable Hampton shows and the rest of the tour.

across the country in a minivan, 2 weeks of seeing the whole midwest,
all the way down to mexico for an afternoon, then back across the
country and getting a hotel rom right on virginia beach. Rocky
Mountain National Park, The Salt Flats, The Petrified Forest, Carlsbad
Caverns. What a long strange trip. The Show was great! Santana,

I would also have to add another show ( as maybe a second fav, or just
another great show :). If anyone saw the Truckin up to Buffalo DVD?¿ I
was there :) and trust me I have tried like hell to see me in the
crowd shots :) but alas I can not. oh well, I can watch the dvd and
remember the show. It was kinda weird in the begining, the 10,000
maniacs opened the show, and they played the set dressed in
Mummenschanz costums. Then the dead hit the stage and played a solid
show, really good.

Notes:
10,000 Maniacs opened - last 1st set "L. L. Rain": 07-10-87 [153] or
06-28-86 [211] - last "Playin Reprise": 03-21-86 [236]

Cold Rain and Snow
Walkin' Blues

Touch of Grey
Man Smart/Woman Smarter
Ship of Fools
Playin' in the Band
Terrapin Station

You should open a new thread, like general chat or something? keep
people posting. maybe they have stuff to say, but don't want to go off
topic? just a thought.
Sean

and just to start it off, I was bidding on ebay on a copy of deadbase
XI it started at 20 bucks :) and at the end of the auction, I was the
high bidder, at a measly 150 bucks, until 5 minutes to go, someone
bumped the bid, and I was at work, standing in the back of a trailer,
trying like hell to get signal on my phone, to place a new bid, and I
managed to get 1 in! outbid him by 3 dollars, auction is at 177 and 9
seconds to go and I am the high bidder! yey! and the he snipes me...
if I was at my home computer I would have had it.. a book that I have
seen sell for almost $1000 many times. oh well. I did manage to win
an auction for deadbase X and it came in the mail Fri, and it turns
out to be a mint copy that had never even been opened, and the seller
turned out to be rob cohn, longtime photographer and licensed by GDP,
his photos are in the book/base as well as many other books/mags.
cool!

Sorry to hear you were sniped! Sounds like you got a real winner with the Cohn DB X, and I will open a discussion for General Chat. Thanks for the suggestion!
