Come join us for a Land Stewardship Project Pasture Walk at Silky Cow Farm!

Thursday, September 21, 2023 1:30 PM -  3:00 PM CT

Nathan Vergin's Farm, 13300 Green Acres Dr, Saint Charles, MN 55972

Directions: the route will be St. Charles Township 18 if navigating with Google Maps

Nathan Vergin's Silky Cow farm is a family run, small, pasture-based dairy operation. We will walk and talk pastures, marketing/markets, animal health, grazing, and herd management. The focus of this pasture walk will be on stockpiling forage for late season grazing and how plans have changed, or not, as a result of drought and army worms.

Nathan apprenticed with Joel Salatin in the mid-2000s. Nathan and Amy, his wife, ran a pasture-based meat, egg, and dairy operation on rented land in the state of Virginia. A big move to Minnesota, taking over the Hershey farm, and five kids later, they are still an organic, pasture-based dairy. They also raise pigs, turkeys, chickens, and vegetables to feed themselves and have a self-sustaining operation. To learn more about the Vergins, see this 2020 Land Stewardship Project profile.

FREE event. Rain or shine. We will be walking through pastures across mostly level terrain. You are welcome to stick around afterwards to have apple pie and ice cream. Please bring your own plate, fork & water bottle to help reduce waste. Also, bring a chair if that would be more comfortable for you.
