Hi all -
I'm mostly a lurker on this list. I'm working with Luisa Beck to put
together a blog post for the MIT Center for Civic Media about making
maps for journalists and we are looking to cite a case where mapping
actually was _not_ ideal because not everybody wants to be mapped. In
these cases mapping can be an invasion of privacy or serve to "out"
people that do not actually want visibility.
Do you all have good examples of this? I'm thinking indigenous groups
or groups that don't specifically use maps might be one area. One we
are already citing is the recent map of gun owners produced by a
newspaper in NY state.
Thanks for any thoughts and examples you can point us towards,
Catherine D'Ignazio
