Friends,
Today, at the HeatNE show in Manchester, NH, I met Arie Van Vugt,
President of Plainview Growers in New Jersey.
See:
www.plainviewgrowers.com
Arie told me that they are now producing 2 tons per hour of pellets
made from various Switchgrass types harvested from local conservation
land. These are stored in two 250 ton silos the company has erected.
The grass pellets are burned at the rate of 11 tons per day in a 500-
hp [20 million BTU] pellet burner from Crone Boilers in Holland. The
thermal energy is used to provide space conditioning for their 15
acres green house.
For a 2008 press story on this:

As if this was not interesting news in itself, Arie reports that
George, his grower, is very interested in the idea of making some
grass biochar to see how much it will reduce their use of conventional
fossil fuel fertilizers as well as to sell to other growers. To be
continued ...
Regards,
Jock
