So I plug in my Xbox Controller, load up DeSmuME, click Config > Control Config, but when I move a stick or press a button on the xbox controller, nothing happens, it acts like there is no button input. All other emulators and games work just fine with the controller, so it's likely not something with the controller or drivers.
The odd thing was, it worked fine with 0.9.8, but due to issues I was having involving save paths and whatnot, I ended up deleting it entirely. I then redownloaded both 0.9.8 AND 0.9.9 and neither of them worked with the controller. I've tried different USB ports as well.
Everywhere else uses xinput and desmume uses directinput. It's a bug in your gamepad driver. You may have to use a 3rd party driver or some external pad mapping utility to make it behave differently. Also try rebooting your computer if you haven't done that yet.
I had this issue as well, and here's what worked for me.
I enabled Switch Pro Controller configuration in Steam, and added Desmume to Steam as a non-steam game.
Then when I launch Desmume through Steam, the controller works perfectly.
I also had to make sure my desktop controller configuration in steam was set to a default gamepad layout, because for some reason that's what it uses when desmume is focused (not the game-specific config)
Hi,
I want to bind the speed button (fast forward hotkey) to a controller button.
However, it won't let me use only the controller button, but instead forces me to use a combination of alt + controllerButton.
This is really annoying because I do not want to use a keyboard at all, which is why I was using a controller in the first place.
Is there a way to bind this speed button to only a controller button, wihout the need of a keyboard key?
which OS are you using? I can bind controller buttons to fast forward just fine in windows. sounds like you have a flaky joystick driver, or some kind of program interfering. like it intercepts button presses but doesn't think theyre button presses when keys are held down. If you're not able to find what's causing it, you can always use autohotkey
I am on Windows 10, and I am using a Gamecube Controller with an adapter. I can set any other button in the control option just fine, but when if I try to bind hotkeys to buttons, it always adds the alt option.
Never heard of autohotkey, do you mean something like binding button to a key, and then said key to the hotkey?
Hi there, my PS4 controller is not working for DeSmuME. It's connected via Bluetooth and I've confirmed that the controller is connected to my laptop and working properly. But DeSmuME is not seeing it with I try to reconfig the controls.
I've connected the controller to my PC via Bluetooth but it doesn't seem to recognize when I press any button on the controller, so I can't map them. I'm sure it's a simple fix as I don't know much about emulation, so if anyone knows what's going on, please let me know.
I've had a few emulators have trouble recognizing the Steam controller menu, but all I'd have to do in that case is turn on a game, and I'd get that little "Steam Controller is Connected" notification on the bottom right. I have to assume my DeSmuMe emulator is not being recognize by Steam because it's not installed directly to my computer, like my Dolphin emulator is.
Desmume is a popular emulator for playing Nintendo DS games on your computer. In this article, we will guide you through the process of setting up a controller for Desmume, allowing you to enjoy your favorite DS games with ease.
Step 1: Connect your controller
Firstly, connect your controller to your computer using either a wired connection or by pairing it via Bluetooth. Ensure that your controller is recognized by your computer before proceeding.
Step 4: Configure your controller

3. Can I use multiple controllers with Desmume?
Yes, Desmume supports multiple controllers. Simply connect the additional controllers to your computer and configure them using the same steps mentioned above.
4. What if I want to change the controller configuration later?
If you want to change the controller configuration at any point, you can easily do so by accessing the Control Config menu in Desmume and reassigning the buttons as desired.
6. Are there any specific settings I need to adjust in Desmume for a better gaming experience?

I want to play desmume emulated games with my steam controller but when configuring it in desmume it registers the controller buttons as keyboard clicks which is a big issue because the two top trigger buttons don't register at all. Is there a way to fix this? I've added it to Steam but it did nothing
But when I went to remap the keys in the Control Config area on the desmume, it automatically remapped them all to #255 and wouldn't let me change it. I checked the hotkeys section and it's doing the same thing. I've tried getting rid of the emulator and redownloading it and even going up to v0.9.9 and it still doesn't work. Both versions are doing this now and I haven't been able to find anyone else having this issue or how to solve it.
weve never been able to figure out whats causing this for some people. are you using a laptop? try detaching other input devices from your system. does it look like #255 is getting spammed constantly somehow? for example, if you click on any of the bindings (the binding should turn green), will it immediately get set to #255 (and return to blue)? If you were to edit bindings in the desmume.ini file, would they show up as #255 still?
Yes. Toshiba laptop. I've tried unplugging my headphones, usb keyboard and usb mouse and it still does the same thing without them plugged in.
When I click on control config, it doesn't give me even a split second to change anything, it autofills all of it immediately and I'm unable to do more than click out of it. It stays blue and clicking on any of them refills each one with #255 in blue all over again.
Also, I've tried editing the file and adding in A=A and so on, but to no avail. It doesn't change the keys at all, nor will it let me use them afterwards.
Hi there. I just set up DS emulation through hyperspin simply because I could do it. The DS has always been one of my favorite systems. I use xbox 360 controllers for all of my emulators. Now that everything is configured, I'm wondering how some of you use it. Do you always keep a mouse nearby to access the touchscreen, or perhaps program a controller to interface with the touchscreen? Do you play only games that don't involve the touchscreen? I'm hoping to make it somehow usable from my couch, but for now it seems like I'll just stick to games that don't involve touch. Thanks!
You could use a keymapper like xpadder to emulate mouse controls but I believe djvj said it best that you're going to get the best experience using an actual mouse. Another alternative would be to have a keyboard with the touchpad but nothing imo works better than the mouse. I've never really enjoyed emulating the mouse with DS so to use a controller only with the system has never been a viable option.
DS4 has full quality audio through a standard headphone jack at the bottom of the controller. As of now i don't think they have it functional on pc but it is a work in progress. The Touch interface being utilized in NDS Emu sounds great though. I'm tempted to steal my brother's controller and test it out right now. I've always been a fan of 360 controls over Dualshock especially with the nativity on pc being 360, but after playing around with PS4 and recently connecting a DS3 wirelessly to my Microsoft Surface for Emu Sony is slowly stealing me over. with Bluetooth there's no damn dongle hanging out of my pc. The 360 wireless dongle only works with USB 2.0 ports and my pc has only one 2.0 port, USB 3.0 has its downfalls unfortunately. Hope my little spill on controllers gives you a little insight to my opinion.
move with left stick, and click with right trigger which is unused on real DS. I would like to do on AHK a bit of limiting, for example, not allowing the cursor to go beyond a certain range, so it always stays within the screen (faster for point and click).
If you check my xpadder profile it is set as the libretro version, left analog with right trigger (I didn't look up, was a coincidence). For some reason using my right thumb for cursor feels awkward, like if I didn't have enough precision. Anyway I don't recommend using any other DS emulator than 432X, 3D games look like crap otherwise.
432X? Did you mean the X432R build of Desmume? I agree that it really helps with 3D games and makes them look better but it's poorly optimized once you go above 2x resolution. I'm not sure how much that build will be updated with fixes either.
