Perhaps you can describe how you are currently attempting to set and save your input settings? All your nestopia settings are stored in nestopia.xml, so that may (or may not) provide a clue as to what's happening.
To set the nestopia xml as read only navigate to where nestopia is located and the nestopia.xml is there, right hand click and go to properties and tick read only and press ok, it should now always have the same configuration.
im not sure if nestopia supports matching region by filename. suppose to be anything that has (PAL), (EU) for example in the filename run the rom in PAL mode (at least that how other nes matches region since there is no identifier that can be used in header for this for ines 1.0)
hello all, i have a weird issue with launchbox. I am trying to setup Nestopia with my nes rom collection but in launchbox when i double click a game, the emulator opens but nothing happens after that, i have to go through the nestopia menu to launch a rom, can anyone tell me how to get the emulator to auto launch the selected rom in launchbox?
I have this same issue as described. I am able to open games outside of Launchbox but but error loading in Launchbox. I have my associated platform set to Nintendo Entertainment System and the correct emulator selected "Nestopia". It in fact loads nestopia and then the error occurs, File not found!
so after fiddling around within launchbox, I have found our solution for nestopia to work. go to the launchbox menu >tools>manage emulators, double click the nestopia line and on that window make sure "Extract ROM archives before running" is checked. click ok then close and you're ready to run nes games on nestopia from launchbox or bigbox
Test procedure was to build two packages with CXXFLAGS="-march=x86-64 -pg". One package depends on glu (nestopia-glu). Other package uses the sed-hack to remove it (nestopia-noglu). Remove currently installed nestopia (built with glu) and all related dependencies with pacman -Runcss nestopia. Install, nestopia-noglu. After running, process gmon.out with gprof. Delete gmon.out and install nestopia-glu. Run new binary and process new gmon.out with gprof.
I installed Nestopia through the official Debian repos (using Debian 12), i.e. sudo apt install nestopia. I also have one of those official Nintendo NES gamepads that have the Wii connector, and I have an adapter for PC for that.
I'm having some issues with my usb joystick and Nestopia that I was hoping to get some help with. I have the emulator enhancer that allows for joysticks to be used, but the first time I tried to play a game, I hadn't installed the enhancer yet, so when I went to nestopia> preferences > joysticks... and tried to configure my controller, Nestopia said it didn't detect any joysticks and the screen with the table of unmapped keys popped up and gave me the option to configure my keyboard.
I have tried ejecting nestopia, plugging the controller in, opening nestopia again, and it still doesn't say it's found a joystick. I've also restarted and tried using different usb inputs, but still no luck. It seems like Nestopia is just bypassing the step where it should be looking for the joysticks. I can't find a way to make it try to detect anything again.
I've been using nestopia with this usb same controller (a retrolink that looks exactly like the nes original) for a long time on my macbook with no problems whatsoever. I'm now trying to use it on a macbook pro and can't seem to get it to work.
what kind of controller are you trying to use? it has to be plugged into your computer before you open nestopia or it won't realize it's there. once you do that go to input and in the upper right corner should be the name of your controller highlighted in blue [mine says Logitech Precision]. if it's there then there also should be a blue highlighted "Pad 1" on the left side. It's ready to be configued. Hit "set all" then hit up, down, etc etc to configure (don't hit anything when it comes to turbo a and turbo b, just wait the few seconds) and you should be good to go. here is also a good reference for setting up nestopia:
