GraphFrames needs a logo, so I created a 99designs contest to create one. There are six finalists. Please vote for the one you like the most :)

Haha, thanks! Here is the number one vote. It is my favorite, but it seems like something a startup would use, less than a project. Plus, it needs to fit in with the Spark logo.

Here is 2nd place, which fits more in with the Apache logos:

image.png

I hope to make GraphFrames a part of Apache Spark, so it needs to be compatible with this, for comparison... either could work, but maybe the triangle works better? The color could change to match the orange theme of Spark's logo.

image.png

I am not sure what authority I am acting under regarding the logo except... I am submitting a PR that will include the logo in the web page for GraphFrames :D So I may go with 2nd place. Is that against community wishes? :(

Thanks, the risk is without asking an expert designer that the logos are a copy. Whether from generative AI or intentional borrowing... so I did a reverse image search. The triangle is a very common... motif :) They aren not related and are fairly obscure, though.

image.png

Whereas the circle... less common, not exactly the same.

image.png

I think based on a reverse image search there are way more fairly exact copies of the triangle, even the color, while the circle is more common. Circle it is, I think.

image.png

My favorite is actually the polar bear but Polars... is a problem.

If the text was from the circle, I like the bear a lot. Especially on a dark background.

Sorry to spam the list with images, guys!

I voted for the second one. The first one seems a bit bland to me and reminds me of the Unity Catalog logo.

IMHO, I'm inclined to go with the 2nd place as well ;-).

We shouldn't use that one. Reminds me of the cover of this book ...

I don’t see what that association would be a problem. As an author I can tell you hardly anyone knows my animal.

I went with this one, it is the most original, although it says "company" a little more than "open source project," I do think it could work well with the Spark logo.

image.png

My personal favorite is the darned Octopod... I was going to buy it from the creator as an alternate but he rescinded the design :(

image.png

That's all, folks :D GraphFrames will soon have a logo :)

This thread is important to more Spark users than most threads. That being said - I created a Google Group to host the GraphFrames' mailing list. Also a LinkedIn page (plz follow). Please be patient while enough people sign up to it to facilitate conversations there, and I promise no more shenanigans like logos :)

Happy to see your enthusiasm around the logo, but is this important for EVERY Spark user?

Minus spark user...

So in addition to a logo, I got him to make a brand guide and pretty background for a LinkedIn page for GraphFrames :) Brand guide and logo Illustrator files are attached, in case anyone needs them - archiving them on our GraphFrames Google Group. I'll put them in a brand kit on the website at some point...

Thanks very much for tackling this Russell!  A quick note, could you ensure the Apache Spark on this page has the TM (i.e., Apache Spark™).  Thanks! :)

Here are 2000px width images of the light and dark logo. I'm adding it to the docs site and README now :D
