IMPORTANT CRIME UPDATE
Last night at 9:30 PM there was another carjacking here in the neighborhood. This incident occurred at Oakland and Sydney. The victim was approached by 2 young black males who showed a weapon and then took the car, a Honda Insight. At this time we have no additional details on descriptions of the suspects, or if the car has been recovered.
Also last night between 7 and 8 PM on Kendrick near Park Ave there was a burglary where the back door was kicked in. Similar to the previous burglaries this month, computers and other electronics were taken. The house does not have an alarm system. The residents reported that they had just gone out for dinner.
In a recent conversation with Major Meadows he reported that many of the city wide carjacked vehicles are being recovered in the NW section of the city. The pattern seems to be that 3 or 4 will ride around in one car, pick out an area or a victim, do the carjacking, then split up in the 2 cars. These suspects are typically 18-20 years old. He has stated that there will be more safety checkpoints in the neighborhood, especially on the west side.
He does not believe that the recent spike in burglaries is related to robberies or carjackings. He is strongly encouraging us to call 911 if a situation does not look or feel right. We need to let the APD officers know what's going on. Our Grant Park Security Patrol officers will respond to the 911 call along with the beat officer and check out any suspicious activity.
A recent stolen bike was claimed by a neighbor on Cherokee. The initial 911 call came in from a neighbor and Grant Park Security Patrol officer Lt Iosty made the arrest and recovery.
Remember to activate your alarm and also take a few minutes to record serial numbers and take photos of valuables.
Grant Park Security Patrol will be reviewing their budget to determine if some additional weeknight patrol hours can be added since we've seen this unusual increase in recent crimes. YOUR SUPPORT GOES DIRECTLY FOR SECURITY PATROL OFFICERS ON GRANT PARK STREETS.
