Respectfully, this needs a fix rather than a workaround. Drag and drop is far quicker than going to the menu and browsing for what you need. It's ridiculous all of the issues I'm having with Adobe products these days. But thank you for at least providing a solution for the time being. It's just super frustrating.

I would strongly advise you NOT to be messing with the Windows Registry for something like adding an image to an open Photoshop document. What is your exact workflow for doing this? If you have a single screen, you should be able to drag File Explorer onto the Photoshop window, but reduced in size so you can see Photoshop behind. Make sure the file you are dragging is a valid image format (i.e. .JPG .PNG) and drag with the mouse. I have File Explorer set to Large Icons to make this easier.

While in Photoshop with the target image window selected, go File > Place Embedded which will do exactly the same as dragging, but you have to find the file when the dialog window opens.

It would be great if someone would actually provide the fix for this rather than a workaround. Drag and drop is WAY more efficient than needing to access the menu and browse for an image every single time. And if you'r ea pro designer, than you understand that your time is money.

I'm on a Mac but dragging a valid image file from the Finder to an open Photoshop document adds the image file as a new layer. Easy peasy. I do have the option to create Smart Objects upon place turned off.

I can't drag and drop between between Photoshop and Illustrator either! Ever since I got my new laptop 6 months ago. Don't know what settings got set to defaut, but I run into that too. It would make sense to me that it is some Adobe master file setting which I don't know where to go to change to "everyone" can edit, or whatever it needs to be.

I've run into an issue with administrative settings when I air drop an .ai file to someone to collaborate with. I have to manually go into "file info" and change it to "everyone" can edit before uploading to cloudshare. It would make sense to me if these two issues were caused by the same setting?

"There is nothing to fix" is just an excuse for being lazy. It doesn't matter if it is rare or not, as long as the product doesn't work as it is supposed to It IS a bug and adobe needs to fix it.

I have been experiencing the same issue when I use either Premiere,After Effects and Illustrator. I came across all sorts of solutions but none of these work despite the fact that my adobe creative cloud apps run as Administrator.

After digging deep I found out that these Drag and Drop issues are WINDOWS related and have nothing to do with the apps and after trying around all possible solutions I hit a dead end. Restatring windows.explorer also does not solve anything and you have to be rebooting everytime which annoys me a lot.

Microsoft just released a feature and you can go to System; Advanced Options; Recovery and Windows Update Repair Version and just click it. You won't lose any Application,Files,Pics etc and it will refresh a brand new install for you.

I did that it doesnt work; still cannot drag images into photoshop from explorer. I havent been able to for quite a while but it used to work. Stopped working for some reason on windows 7 and now i have windows 10 it still persists.

So I just bought a MacBook Air and downloaded Photoshop Creative Design onto it. While I am wishing Photoshop I have a "new" tab created with 500 w and 700 h for example. Also while in photoshop on a separate tab I have another image that I took from the internet opened up. I am trying to drag the image that was opened in photoshop from the internet and drag it onto my "new" tab.

When I had my MacBook Pro before making a move I didn't have this problem before and I could simply drag it right on top of the tab so it transfers over. Curious if anyone has had this problem before and would love some help as I am hoping to accomplish some work here asap!

Hi all, I've been having an issue for a while (since one of the recent updates, I cannot remember which) where I am unable to drag files from any location on my PC into Photoshop. Rather than the file opening (or being placed into an open document), the mouse cursor changes to a "stop" or "no" icon. I recorded a video of what it looks like:

Photoshop must not be running as an administrator-- this is what causes the drag and drop problem. I knew this already, but I thought I'd checked all of my permissions settings. It turns out that the taskbar shortcut had its own permissions settings, separate of the settings for the .exe itself. While the .exe was not set to run as administrator, the taskbar shortcut was. So, opening PS from the .exe (or from the Creative Cloud launcher) worked, but opening it from the taskb

The fact that you were able to find similar issues on Google suggests a bug or conflict, but I would still be inclined to try resetting Preferences. Or you could try starting Photoshop while holding down the Shift key to force third party plug-ins and extensions to be ignored.

If you still have the problem after that, paste your System Info to this thread (Help > System info > Copy). That won't fix anything, but will allow other people with the same issue to compare their set up with yours. I can tell you that I have not had this problem with CC and Windows 10.

I uninstalled Photoshop (leaving my preferences intact), and reinstalled. It fixed the problem, however, after a reboot (having done NOTHING else other than confirm the issue was solved), I could no longer drag images into Photoshop again.

Additionally, it seems like I am able to drag-and-drop into Photoshop just fine if I launch it from the actual .exe location rather than from my taskbar shortcut. I discovered this after my reinstall of Photoshop.

So, opening PS from the .exe (or from the Creative Cloud launcher) worked, but opening it from the taskbar caused the issue. When I was checking permissions settings earlier, I only checked the settings in the Compatibility and Security tabs, and completely forgot about the shortcut itself having its own permissions.

@skullUX That solved the issue for me! I intitially had some access permission issue in Windows 10 after migrating my PC, to work aournd it I opened CC apps as Administrator. After solving my NTFS permission issues and started apps normally without admin, drag and drop worked again.

As i was searching online as well since I've had the same situation after an update, and when disable the "run phoshop as an administrator" doesn't work, try to disable the "skip transform when placing" under Edit > Preferences > General >

When I tried dragging and dropping a group of photos on my desktop the folder would turn blue and the window subdivision outline would turn blue but when I released the mouse nothing transfered. The sound notification didn't sound.

1st issue: exporting a file to pdf from indesign, illustrator or photoshop.. into dropbox folder new file name works. but if I needed to resave 'over' the same file it will not let me save again. I would have to delete the file first inorder to save it at that same file name.

2nd issue: Opening finder windows and trying to drag ANY file into dropbox window file does not allow me to copy/move from window to window.

The Keynote will be available to stream on apple.com, the Apple Developer app, the Apple TV app, and the Apple YouTube channel. On-demand playback will be available after the conclusion of the stream.

If you have the latest version of Photoshop you should be able to drag and drop but should hold down the Option key to get the original file instead of the preview that's created upon import for viewing.

Life moves forward and Apple provided a greatly expanded capability to use any program that provided extensions and the External Editors for Photos extension uses this new Apple provided capability to allow you to use any external editor with Photos - you cn choose to use it or not use it but it is not a bug - it is a new expanded and much more powerful capability
