Megumin (めぐみん) is an Arch Wizard of the Crimson Demon Clan in the Fantasy World, and is the first person to join Kazuma's party. She is one of the main characters of the KonoSuba series.
Megumin is a young girl with shoulder-length dark brown hair (smooth black in light novel) and crimson-colored eyes. She wears a classical witch attire such as a black cloak with gold border, choker, wizard's hat, fingerless gloves, and carries a black staff. Though she jokingly claims that her eyepatch seals her immense power, she actually sees it as a stylish sense of fashion due to her chuunibyou tendencies.
She has fair skin and a light complexion. Unlike her rival Yunyun, who has a more developed body, Megumin seems to have a delicate under-developed figure, as Kazuma describes her figure as a "porcelain doll." Yuiyui also stated that all of their family members have thin bodies, but Megumin thinks that it's just because they lack nutrients because they hardly eat solid food.
Megumin is a straightforward girl who speaks in an old-style Japanese dialect. She can be very hyper and lively at times and has chuunibyou tendencies like the rest of the Crimson Demon villagers. She is very intelligent, but has very little self-control, especially when it comes to using Explosion magic. She has no problem wasting her spell on empty plains or abandoned castles, as long as she can use Explosion once a day.
After being harassed for days by Megumin's Explosion magic, Beldia was annoyed and called her a crazy-headed girl ("Girl with screws loose"). Much to Megumin's dismay, since the nickname describes her quite well, "crazy-headed girl" also became her official nickname in Axel. Kazuma stated that Megumin has the most common sense among the girls in the party, but considering her competition, that isn't saying much. Megumin also enjoys participating in (or starting) childish antics with Aqua or Darkness, and often acts over-dramatic to hype up the moods.
Megumin is generally calm and cheerful, but she can easily become aggressive when she feels slighted or challenged. Kazuma stated that she is magnanimous and cherishes her comrades more than anyone else. This is evident as she will become fiercely protective when others mock or try to hurt her allies. She also hates being treated like a child just because of her young appearance and becomes despondent when people call her a loli.
Because of her love for Explosion magic, Megumin will show great aversion to anything that she deems to be an imitation of such, or things she deems to be fakes and deviants to said Explosion magic, as shown with her reaction to Kazuma's recreation of dynamite.
While still attending school, Megumin would swindle food from Yunyun every day since her parents couldn't afford meals. Due to her exceptional academic performance, Megumin was able to graduate early. When she left to travel alone, Yunyun predicted she would be "at a loss due to a lack in the means of survival, begging a useless guy for a meal."
Explosion Magic: Megumin is absolutely obsessed with Explosion magic. She devotes all of her skill points into improving the power of her explosions, shortening her casting time, and being able to cast the spell without chanting out loud. However, the severe mana drain, combined with Megumin never using points to increase her mana, results in her always collapsing after casting and becoming completely immobile. Also, her refusal to learn any other magic makes her entirely dependent on allies after casting. This is especially notable because there are other known Arch Wizards who can use Explosion magic, can remain standing after casting, know at least one other skill, and can fight alone if necessary.
Intelligence: Of the four members of her party, Megumin's stats are the highest in terms of intelligence and she is shown regularly to be clever when the situation demands it. However, said intellect is typically hindered by her chuunibyou tendencies, best shown by her refusal to learn any spells outside of Explosion despite the obvious limitations that come with it.
High Magic Proficiency: As a member of the Crimson Demon Clan, Megumin is naturally gifted in terms of magical ability and has been stated to have high mana reserves as a result. Were it not for her desire to focus solely on Explosion magic it's very likely she'd be able to use a wide range of advanced spells like many of the members of the clan.
Well, currently in the main series Megumin has become quite decent, but I doubt you can say the same the first time you watch Konosuba, as for Yunyun, well I agree actually, but since the base is actually Crimson Demon perception of being cool
True I cant say she was decent at first but her backstory from the Explosions volumes shows that she has a fairly decent side that only started to show in the main series after she and Kazuma got closer
If you think about it Megumin didnt immediately become the more mature in their group after a few months unless she already had that side to her from the start. The only thing that kept her from showing it is her crimson magic/chuuni traits combined with her obsession for Explosions. Ironically its those traits that make her unique. if you were to remove those traits then Megumin would be a generic loli character and the ship would probably be with Darkness or Iris right now
With the creation of Fire Throne and the extermination or subjugation of strong magical monsters around Plague Woods in the Aliovis region, many wandering adepts are attracted to Fire Throne. The Crimson Family starts to form.

Mary leads the defense of Fire Throne, she and six other Second Grades prepare for war.
The Alliance has over a hundred adepts and a army of thirty thousand soldiers, it besieges Fire Throne. The battle goes poorly for them at first but as time passes, Fire Throne starts to deplete its energy stores and the numerical superiority of the Alliance Adepts start to become unbearable for the defenders. The Alliance fire Adepts successfully cuts off Fire Throne's energy source and the defensive power of Fire Throne is reduced, the Crimson Adepts suffer in the fighting. Bug Adept Billis advances to Second Grade in the meantime and teleports into Fire Throne, he is able to postpone the Alliance for awhile but Yurga interferes.
Eventually the alliance barges into the tower and fierce fighting occurs inside the tower. The Crimson Adepts retreat onto the fourth floor. They are saved by Branch Brain Gru who was sent by Gazlowe to reinforce the tower alongside a portable magic furnace to power up Fire Throne and a regiment of countless magic machines.
The Alliance Adepts are caught in a killzone inside Fire Throne as the defenses inside the tower activate and start killing them off in conjunction with the magic machines. The assault on Fire Throne fails and over two-thirds of Alliance forces are killed or captured. The reputation of the Crimson Family skyrockets due to the victory.
The Crimson Family exhausted most of its fighting strength and is unable to take advantage of its victory, after recovering for a short while, it begins retaliatory attacks against the Kamala Clan. It also manages to recruit some captured adepts.

Meanwhile, Yurga asks the Zhentarim Association for help. He gives the Zhentarim Association his last level one resource sites in exchange for arbitration. The Zhentarim Association officially declares an armistice between the Kamala Family and the Crimson Family and calls for a "fair" duel between the two sides. Each side must choose a official Adept to represent their side and failure to choose will result in an instant loss.
