My computer "warned" me, after an HP update a few days ago, that the Microsoft Adapter was not connected .............. in a sense I don't know if it ever was. In Device Manager, there are 2 devices with the same name (which will be called MWFDVA to save me typing time). One was deleted in October of 2014 and the other, designated by the computer as MWFDVA # 2 was apparently installed in December of 2014. Under its Properties, it said it is "Disconnected" ...... have no idea when that occurred. I do know that the software for my Bluetooth (Intel's software ........ there seems to be some generic bluetooth software/drivers from Microsoft dating from 2006 that seem to active also) has been completed updated (software and drivers) at least once in the last several months. The Properties window says I should "reconnect" to use the adapter. Apparently it is enabled but not "connected". I have no idea how to do that. I also wonder if it was purposely "disconnected: by Intel or HP tpo prevent interference with the Intel Wireless - AC 7265 ????
- The Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7265 requires a driver for WiFi and another one for Bluetooth, if you consider that the drivers may be outdated or not working correctly, we advise you to contact the PC manufacturer(HP) to obtain and install the most recent driver available for your Wireless adapter. Remember that as best practice you should update the Bluetooth driver as well as the Wi-Fi driver to keep both at the same level.
This virtual adapter was installed by my Intel Wireless driver software. I was unable to disconnect my main Network Interface Card driver from this virtual adapter software. So I just disabled the virtual adapter from the network connections window.
What I am observing is that when Miracast receiver (Microsoft Connect App) is launched it activates one Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter and runs properly. But as soon as I start mobile hotspot also then this virtual adapter is acquired by hotspot feature and miracast gets forced closed.
Hi LimitlessTechnology,
Yes, as both technologies are using same resource (which is basically a Virtual WiFi Adapter) so my thinking was if I add 1 more WiFi adapter then we may get 2 resources(virtual adapter) in system, one for each technology. Is this assumption incorrect?
Hi, need help with my adapter, apparantly it is not compatible with wifi direct Windows 10 IoT Core, that means it does not activate the 'Microsoft WiFi Direct Virtual Adapter' in the device manager. Mobile hotspot does not work, Im trying to make a mini pc into a virtual router. Can anybody help with this?
Thank you for your reply, yes I have tried the latest driver, it does work with Win10 but as you stated it is a 2012 model it does not support 'Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter' which should show up in the Device Manager under Network adapters, it all it needs to be able to setup a Mobile Hotspot within Windows.
Hey All
I'm on Optus Speed Pack 6 and was getting near 500Mbs 24/7 until Windows 11 had a major update recently and was down below 70Mbs and choppy. I then remembered, after days of troubleshooting intermittent slow internet a couple of years ago, I had disabled Microsoft Wi-fi Direct virtual adapter.
That being said, the Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter can cause issues with your external Wi-Fi adapters. It can also clutter your Device Manager view. If you need to get rid of the Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter, here is how to remove and disable the virtual adapter in Windows 10 and 11.
To fix any issues triggered due to Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter, try to disable the Project to This PC option in Windows 10 and 11. If not, you can manually remove the virtual adapters via Device Manager, Registry Editor, and Command Prompt.
Removing Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter is straightforward via Device Manager. However, if Windows reinstalls the adapter after the restart, use the registry hack to remove the virtual adapters permanently.

Is there any way I can stack up my NDIS filter driver on top of iphttpsinterface, which is a virtual tunnel adapter provided by Microsoft for Direct Access.
With this, I would like network traffic from my NDIS driver to go as input to iphttpsinterface rather than getting the output of iphttpsinterface as input to my filter driver.
Thanks in advance.
