Issues with GDS3 client

We are having a problem trying convert from GDS2 to 3. It seems that the client is freezing for 4-5 seconds whenever we try to make a request to our Java service. If the server is local this doesn't happen, it only happens when the server is remote. Does anyone have any clue as to what is going on? We are desperate at this point.
