Hi everyone!

I'm wondering if someone can create a screencast about how to setup a
development environment
with GDS so that we can be able to debug step by step the internal
functioning of GDS from start to
finish and maybe after comprehend the working and get involved in the
project.

I'm trying to learn the source code and I find it difficult because i
didn't find a step by step documentation
that explains how it does run in the background.

Thank you for the great work to all!

Hi,

I hope this project helps you, as it has been for me:  http://code.google.com/p/flexgdsgen/

Best regards,

Thank you for the link!

I was more talking about how to debug step by step
the internal core of GRANITEDS so that I can learn
how it works and how can i add functionalities to it!

I'm asking for a development environment for GDS not
related with any other kind of flex/air project. I want to
learn everything about GDS and the best way for me to
do it is to go step by step debug within eclipse and visualise
and memorize how every components work.

The purpose of the screencast was to help people who want
to join the GDS project in the development so that setting up
the dev. environment doesn't take too much time.

Can someone help with that? Is there an existing tutorial that
shows that already?

Well unfortunately we don't yet have such materials to get started with development on GDS.
We definitely have to create at least a wiki page 'Getting involved' or something like this.

For now the best way to start is to clone the github repository and build the project from source with ant.
Then you can import the examples in Eclipse and run them in Tomcat or JBoss

Don't hesitate to contact us directly if you need some help setting up your environment.

Another option is to download the core distribution and import it as an Eclipse project (ie: Import... / General / Existing Projects into Workspace / Select archive file -> graniteds-2.3.2.GA.zip). Then, edit the env.properties file, adapt the FLEX_HOME property, right click on the build.xml file and select Run As / Ant Build.

Can someone take the time to make a step by step tutorial on what we need as eclipse plugin to setup a development environment?
I think that if we can setup the same configuration as you guys are using it will be perfect!

I asked that for another open source project and I was able to get it fast! How long do you think that it will take
for one of the team member of GDS?
