I ask this, because I was told that "FYI trimming is available in 4.0 API with the latest mediavault " and I would really like to be able to trim clips through the API.

Ahhh. Gotcha. The API depends on the next mediavault release. I will need to check on when you'll receive that since it depend on scheduling with the support team.
