Besides the conflagration occurring between National and the California Grange, I have run across several granges that have been "put on probation" or threatened with the suspension of their Charters. This seems to be going on as fairly standard practice. Not sure of the particulars, but I wonder what is the role of our elected representatives? I do not elect anyone to boss me around. I vote to elect folks who represent me and advocate for those changes. Still, I imagine there may be instances where Leaders must put their foot down, or take a stand.

What is your view of the proper role for Leaders of the Grange - whether they are Local, Pomona, State, or National? Do they do their best service to the Grange organization as policemen? jailers? role-models? representatives? advocates? teachers? coaches? protectors? parents? servants?

What has been your experience and what is your opinion and definition of a proper Grange Leader? And what are the dilemmas you yourself may be facing as an elected Officer of the Grange.
