Hi Grandmont Neighbors,
Passing along this event hosted by End Gun Violence Michigan and their Gubernatorial Candidate Forum:
Since End Gun Violence Michigan was founded, our coalition has won more than a dozen laws, policies, and appropriations for gun violence prevention here in Michigan. And we are just getting started! Our next Governor will have the power to define the trajectory of this movement: whether our momentum from here only grows, or we face new hurdles to pass more gun violence prevention legislation. Join us on May 16th, 2026 to show the candidates: we have power, too, and they'd better take us seriously. We are filling a cathedral with our movement to engage with these candidates and hear their vision for a safer Michigan, and ask THEM - how are they going to be champions for our movement?
Our first-ever non-partisan Governor Candidate Forum will be in Detroit, May 16th, from 2-4pm.
Candidates will be asked to address the following topics: -Protecting our schools & children.
-Suicide prevention.
-Community violence intervention.
-Domestic violence.
-Holding the gun industry accountable.
-Protecting our democracy.
-Protecting our communities from ICE.
We are excited to have Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, and Sheriff Chris Swanson confirmed so far! But this forum isn’t just about hearing from the candidates. It’s about making sure the voices of survivors, advocates, and community leaders across the state are at the center of the conversation. After the forum, we will host an organization fair so attendees can get involved with local groups that are working every day on these issues. Register today to secure your spot!
