Dear Regional Growth & Investment Network members,
What an exciting week for the Growth & Investment Network of the Grand Vision. This past Tuesday, March 1st, the Northern Michigan Placemaking Summit – catalyzed by the efforts of our group – was a huge regional success! With major speakers and exciting, inspiring and heavy-hitting content, the Summit drew in over 250 people to the NMC Hagerty Center in Traverse City. All forms of media picked up the story – air waves, ink, television and the internet reported with very positive information to the community creating a groundswell of exposure to strategies for cities and villages to participate in local and regional placemaking was extremely successful. Well done everyone!
For follow-up video and presentation information from the summit, visit the Regional Planning page of the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments webpage regularly – it will be posted soon: http://www.nwm.org/planning.asp
We will have several exciting updates and new content for our Monday, March 14th meeting in the Steelcase Room of the TC Chamber from 10am-Noon. A review of some of the major takeaway point from the Placemaking Summit will be reviewed, and discussion will be focused on how to put these strategies into action for growth and investment in our identified regional investment areas.
Also, Blake Smith, USDA Rural Development Specialist will provide a presentation focused on several grant programs that local units of government can leverage to increase their infrastructure and other capacities for economic development. These large grants can be EXTREMELY impactful in rural communities for increased economic opportunities.
Please join us this month for another great Growth and Investment Network meeting.
Hope you are all well.
Best,
Nigel
