I just found this group and read the post from last March about our
local elections. I live in this town year round, I help keep the
local merchants alive during the winter and off seasons, I pay extra
taxes to have my vehicles registered in this town as is required by
law, and my drivers license gives my local address. As I understand
the requirements for voting in this precinct, you must LIVE here not
just own a second home. This is State Law not Local law. I am
appalled at the thought of second home owners voting in our Town
elections. Everyone should vote where their PRIMARY residence is,
where they have their vehicles registered, and the address that is on
their license.
This was the problem with our last election. I have heard over 50
names are being investigated for changing their registrations at the
last minute. I hope they are able to weed out the ones who cheated
and are able to keep it as "clean" as possible in the future. It is
up to the Locals to decide their future, not some special interest
group that is trying to sway the elections.
I also take offense at the statement "those not set in their ways and
who will listen may number about 50." Listen to what? Set in their
ways how? I take that as a very elitist and demeaning statement.
I hope anyone who is being advised to change their registration for
the next election, will reconsider. I am sure the DA's office will
not look as kindly on those voters if they have to investigate again.
I will be sure to spread this website to the many Locals who are
probably "set in their ways".
