opening files in matlab

Hi all

This is Tahereh, I downloaded the challenge12 dataset and I want to implement a new method and compare the results with other papers. unfortunately I have a problem with opening images in matlab. when I opened .raw files in matlab they distorted  and when I converted them to .nii files by Slicer software and opened them in matlab they became so dark. can you please say how you opened .mhd and .raw files in matlab. I really need your help. thank you. (attached file is a .nii(nifti) file that I opened it by matlab)
