On September 23, 2016, Justin Kittredge pitched his brand, ISlide, on ABC's "Shark Tank." The business had already been up and running since January 2013, when Kittredge, who hails from Boston, created customizable slides with signature Relief Pro Lining footbeds for comfort and easy use. He wanted to reach the next level for his already successful business by pitching to the sharks.
Justin Kittredge appeared on "Shark Tank" asking for $500,000 in exchange for 5% of ISlide Customizable Sandals. For any devoted fans of the show, such a steep valuation of a company makes the sharks bristle, and Kittredge himself knew that this could be a problem. In a blog post he wrote after his episode, he said that he foresaw problems over this with the sharks. "I knew valuation was going to be an issue," Kittredge wrote. "It is with every single company. ISlide was going to be no different."
Some fans felt like Justin Kittredge made a mistake by walking away from Robert Herjavec's offer. On the Reddit group r/sharktank, fans expressed their surprise. "He was given an extremely generous deal, can't believe he turned it down," one viewer wrote. Other viewers had a hunch that Kittredge fashioned an improbable valuation just to get exposure from the show, and that he never wanted an investor after all. "He knew exactly what he was doing," another person commented. "He turned down Robert because he didn't actually need the money. He only wanted to be on Shark Tank to get his brand out of there. There is a thing called the Shark Tank effect, we will see how long that lasts for him."
ISlide, like many other businesses, took a hit during the COVID-19 pandemic, with manufacturing and production hiccups. Also, since professional sports teams buy the slides, the interruption of public sporting events meant a hit in sales, according to the Shark Tank Blog. However, the company was able to recover and has gone on to thrive. As of 2023, ISlide was conducting $10 million in annual sales.
ISlide is everything for founder Justin Kittredge. On his LinkedIn page, his current occupation is listed as the President, CEO, and Janitor of ISlide, Inc., and has been since 2013. He's also a board member of Charles River Apparel. Kittredge is one busy guy, with social media posts of him and his team at the Vegas License Show in January 2024 with a fully stocked booth. He's also busy with interviews on radio shows like Boston's Jam'n 94.5, and an appearance on the New England news channel Chronicle 5. He's got a lot on his plate!
I am hoping to use a vertical Fill Slide Indicator to show the position of a rod that moves up and down. The range for the actuator is +5mm to -109 mm, with 0mm considered to be the "home" position. There are a few other points such as -50mm that I would like to have a text indicator to the side for as well.
Ideally I would like to have this slide fill in the downwards direction starting at 0, when the rod is between 0 and -109, and then fill in the upwards direction starting at 0 when the rod is between 0 and 5mm (perhaps even with a different color for motion in the positive direction, but that's not necessary)
Can you clarify what you mean by making a marker that shows only the nominal value, and the min an max tolerance? Are you trying to display all three of those values on the slide control? Or do you want to have some sort of indicator that shows the tolerance of the markers on the side of the slide control?
What if you created a string indicator that shows the "status" of the measurement? This way, you can set the indicator to display a different status based on the value of the numerical indicator. Does this meet needs of your application?
But I think I have to explain myself e bit better... The color is enough for the operator to see if the measurement is OK or NOK. But I want the scale next the slider to be costumised... Only the important value's may be shown on the scale.
There are about 20 sliders on the screen. Each one with an other (variable) tolerance. The maximum and minimum value of the slider is not important for the operator. The more important is the maximum and minimum tolerance.
You can create labels next to your indicator by double clicking on your front panel and typing the label for the max and min tolerance next to it. If you make this into a strict type def, then you can preserve the labels, so that you can make multiple copies of the indicator. Does this accomplish what you want?
However, now whenever I try to add a layer to a regular slide, it is the question layout that shows up, conatining the grey background box for the correct/incorrect feedback. I have no idea why I can't get the regular slide layers to come up instead of the question layer layouts.
When clicking the new layer button, you are actually using the base layer's master layout. Layers are just meant to place things on top of that base layer so it doesn't offer you the full set of master slides. Instead you are working with the Feedback Master slides. You can view these by going to the View menu and clicking 'Feedback Master'. You can then add new layouts as you desire.
Thanks for the reply Josh. As you can see, the layout that keeps showing up when i try to create a new layer is a layout from the Feedback Master, not the Slide Master. The layout that keeps appearing is not in the Slide Master. And I'm making sure my slide is just a regular slide, not any type of question slide.
Only the base layer can access the Slide Master layouts. Other layers on the same slide can only access the Feedback Master layouts and use the base layer's Slide Master layout. If you want to change the master slide layout, you have to do it from the base layer.
Thanks, but the problem that I'm having is that when I go to add a new layer to a slide (not a question slide, a "regular" slide), it adds a layer with a feedback layout, not one of my "regular" master layouts. And I can't change it back. I'm very familiar and comfortable with layers, and have never had this happen before. If I right click on the layer to change the layout, the only options I get are the "Clean" layouts, not the main, or master slide layouts.
Now it is happening on any project I open. if I just try to add a layer to a slide, the only layouts I can select from are the Clean layers. Here is a screenshot from a different project I just tested. All I've done is add a new slide, and add a new layer to that slide. Again, I get a feedback layer layout:
I'm not sure how else to say it. It is working as intended. All slide layers except the base layer have only the Feedback layouts to choose from (regardless of whether it is a question slide). Only the base layer has the option of using Slide Master layouts.
If you want to use a different Slide Master layout on one of your layers (rather than use what you chose in the base layer), you will need to copy the master slide layer into the feedback master layouts.
If you have the layouts in the course itself, you should see the option when you right-click on the slide and select "Layout". Now, you will see the default Storyline layout in the list if you haven't changed it.
There's a couple of ways you can do this. First, what you can do is save the initial project file as a template. Then, when you go to make a new project, you can start with the template you created from the "SLIDE MASTER.story" file.
A faster way, and to be honest my preferred method, to do this would be to save a "Go To" .STORY file. You've already got this, actually :) What I would do is create a file that contains the layouts and Master slides I like to use, save that file and then save it again using the "Save As" option. Save the file with a new name (for whatever project you're working on), then add your content for that project. It's a great way to keep all of your designs in tact and all you need to do is save a new version, then start adding your content.
Now, since you've already created another project files with many slides, what you could do is import the "DEMO" slides into the "SLIDE MASTER" file. Once you've done that, you can right-click on the imported slides and apply the layouts to the slide.
For example, below you'll see where I've imported the "DEMO" slides into your original design file. Since the "SLIDE MASTER" file already contains those layouts, you can apply them to the imported slides. I would suggest using the "Save As" option here, so you have a new file for this particular project.
"Layers. In one of my projects i am using my slide master layouts. I wanted to create a layer to one of my slides. I couldn't figure out how to apply the same layout to my layer! it's only coming with a new layer. And when i right click on the layer to choose a layout it only opens a choice of "clear" layouts, but not mine!"
"Layers buttons. I have created an object on both my layers, so that the user can click on it (like a button) to move on to the other layer. The trigger works well when i ask it to move on to the next layer. But once on the second layer, i'd like to apply a trigger (to move back to the main layer) to the other button, but the main layer does not appear in the trigger list..."
"Story view. i have 5 scenes in my story view. I can't see how to order my scenes differently. i managed to designate my starting scenes. but i couldn't change the order of my other scenes."
