Gramps 5.2.0 julkaistu

Pitkän testausvaiheen jälkeen 5.2.0 on nyt julkaistu Window- ja Mac-versiona. Linux-versiota hiotaan vielä eri jakeluille.

Uuden version muutoslista on n. 500 kohtainen. Lähes kaikki ovat bugien korjausta ja viilausta. Testailin tänään uutta versiota 120 000 hengen sukupuulla ja ohjelma on selvästi nopeutunut isoilla aineistoilla. Odotukseni on, että Grampsin satunnaiset tilttaukset ovat myös mennyttä aikaa. Hyvä hyvä.

Niemelän Matille isot kiitokset, olet taas saattanut suomennoksen ajantasalle.

Gramps 5.2.0 julkaisuun on tehty paljon ohjelmallisia ja rakenteellisia muutoksia, jotka eivät näy varsinaisesti käyttäjälle. Yksi muutos, josta itse pidän erityisesti on henkilön tapahtumat ikkunassa oleva sarake, jossa näkyy kuvakkeena onko tapahtumassa lähdetieto.

Toivottavasti ylävalikon uudesta laajennuskuvakkeesta avautuvaan laajennusten käsittelyyn saadaan pian mukaan projektina Isotammen laajennukset helposti asennettavaksi. Toki laajennukset saa asennettua myös manuaalisesti. Kun Gramps asennetaan puhtaaseen koneeseen laajennukset eivät ole enää AppData/roaming valikossa, vaan ne asentuu local valikkoon.

Asetuksille on myös tullut ylävalikkoon uusi helposti löytyvä kuvake.

Nick ja minä pyysimme (ja olemme saaneet) luvan sisällyttää Isotammen lisäosat sisällytetään valmiiksi "projektiksi" Addon Managerille.

Toivoin, että se sisällytettäisiin 5.2.3-julkaisuun. Mutta se on todennäköisesti 5.3, ellei Isotammi-tiimisi julkisesti pyydä sitä 5.2.4-julkaisuun. (Vaikka 5.2.4 on "virheenkorjaus", ei "päivitys".)

Voitko sillä välin auttaa keskustelun moderaattoreita parantamaan Tietoja suomenkielisestä kategoriasta -osiota? Tämä viesti on pääosin englanniksi.

Se todellakin (TODELLISESTI) tarvitsee osion äidinkielisen postauksen siitä, kuinka Isotammi-projekti tallennetaan Addon Manageriin.

Jälkikirjoitus: Ensimmäisessä viestissä käytettiin sanaa "tilttaukset". Mietin, tarkoittiko tämä ennakoitavissa olevia "glitches" vai epäsäännöllistä käyttäytymistä? "Erratic" on erittäin huono ohjelmistossa.

Nick and I requested (and have been given) permission to include Isotammi's add-ons to be included as a preset "project" for the Addon Manager.

I was hoping for it to be included for the 5.2.3 release. But it will probably be 5.3 unless your Isotammi team publicly requests it for the 5.2.4 release. (Despite 5.2.4 being a 'bug fix' release, not an 'upgrade' release.)

In the meantime, could you help the Discourse moderators improve the "Tietoja suomenkielisestä kategoriasta (About the Finnish category)" section? That posting is mostly in English.

It really (REALLY) needs a section native language posting about how to save the Isotammi project to the Addon Manager.

Postscript: In the first posting, the word "tilttaukset" was used. I was wondering if this meant predictable "glitches" or erratic behavior? "Erratic" is very bad in software.

Best greetings from Pekka Valta . Thanks Brian and Nick for your interest in Isotammi addons. One of them is really a "swiss knife" , Supertool. It uses scripts published at different forums or you can write your own invented scripts. Is it possible or plausible to maintain Supertool script library on Gramps´ user guide pages? I see that good documentation of some more complex scripts is of benefit for active Gramps users to develop their own scripts.

I am finding the Google Groups postings hard to follow.  The automated translation tools do not handle threaded conversations well.  So it is easy to become lost and difficult to find the thread again.  

It also does not notify accounts that I actively monitor. So... my apologies for not replying.

Yes, that would be very suitable.  I am disturbed that the Finnish section of the Gramps (Discourse) forum still has an introduction in English for "Tietoja suomenkielisestä kategoriasta (About the Finnish category)". The "suomen kieli (Finnish)" section will NOT be made active until it has someone to fully translate that page.

It is difficult enough to have user problems with Gramps. To be unable to find the best help in your native language must be more frustrating. People are probably giving up. That "about" page should be helping people find this (and other native language) resource.

In 2022, I linked first example of a SuperTool script on the wiki. Last November, I expanded it dramatically.

I do not believe that it is the correct forum for sharing the scripts.  It has not organization and the code of the script are difficult to glean from the variable online locations.

The Discourse forum is a better tool for sharing.  It provide 2 separate methods. 

1) We added the feature to the Discourse forum to have a "copy" button for code.  So you can copy and paste into a `.script` or Gramps "SuperTool Script" Note more easily. 

2) We also added the `.gramps` and `.gpkg`  MIME types as 'attachable' file types.  So it someone wanted to become a "Librarian" of SuperTool Scripts, they could create a SuperTool person with all the scripts as Notes (or as script file Media) and upload the collection. And additional Notes could be used to maintain an outline of the included scripts with links to full docs for each script

There is NOT enough organization of scripts yet. It is too hard to discover if your task already has a script... or has a script that is similar and can be adapted. 
Kari has made a wonderfully expandable Help feature for the SuperTool.  But it needs to be expanded. (And a solution needs to be found for maintaining it in multiple languages ... one that is easier to keep updated when an entry is added/enhanced.)

Just looked at the "gist" that Bruce Jackson created for a SuperTool Script in his GitHub repository. His Gist has other snippets than for SuperTool:  https://gist.github.com/brucejackson/

(GitHub Gist is a platform for sharing and managing code snippets and small files, allowing users to collaborate easily through public or secret repositories.) It provides revision control and discussion area for code snippets.

You could experiment with commenting on Bruce's SuperTool Script and try to evolve it. (A simple improvement would be adding a "Description" that includes links to the Gist and/or Discourse discussion of that script.)  See how this GitHub tool's organization and revision control work for a "real world" use.  This would indicate if creating a "gist" for a Isotammi repository might be a good way to managing SuperTool Scripts. 

Perhaps there might even be a way for SuperTool to pull scripts from a collection on GitHub? (Currently, I have a separate tree with "SuperTool Script"-type Notes. I can switch to "Load" that Tree and "File -> Load from Note" in SuperTool, then switch back to the other Tree. I like the larger text editing space offered by the Note Editor. It is hard to grasp the purpose of code when seeing only 3 or 4 Lines.)
