404 as rpc result

i created a sample grails gwt app with grails 2.1.1 and went through the github documentation to set it up. i wanted to make a rpc call to a service but the call was made to [grailsapp]/static/gwt/api.MyApp/rpc instead of [grailsapp]/gwt/api.MyApp/rpc. if i set the ServiceEntryPoint of the service explicitly to [grailsapp]/gwt/api.MyApp/rpc everything works fine.

So my question is: where does that static come from? and how could i change that? (changing the mapping in grails didnt work out - grails seems to take static as some kind of keyword or so)
